I waited for 9 years before giving up, so I wouldn't get your hopes up ;)

I guess my point is that DRLC should ensure careers are managed correctly rather than just trying to fill gaps in undermanned trades at the expense of the soldiers chance of future advancement. There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. Re: THE DRLC THREAD
Spot on, we've all seen it too much, I had friends who were VM's...can DRLC really ensure that a VM who was a 5 year private, who then had to change trade (because the trade was dissolved), will have his career looked after on a par with others who have served the same length of time? It'll be at least - at the very best - his 7 year point to get his lance jack...then 10/11 year full screw maybe.I guess my point is that DRLC should ensure careers are managed correctly rather than just trying to fill gaps in undermanned trades at the expense of the soldiers chance of future advancement.
Compare it with the trades they've tried to fill quickly, such as rad Ops and Movers, where promotion is rapid."They attack us; no casualties. They retreat into the mountains and, naturally, we follow them. Smell like an ambush to you?"

Wow, was that late at night, drunk or Freudian? I did mean 'retraded' of course. However, 7 years in Germany does that to a man y'know

Re: THE DRLC THREAD
The problem I (and many others at the same time) encountered was that when I was posted into tank transporting the entire trade had suffered massively from Options for Change and a huge amount of guys picked up redundancy notices. To fill the gaps, lots of troops from other units who were surplus due to thier units being disbanded were posted in. Most of us were at L\Cpl level and had done 4 or 5 years. We were all fed the 'it won't affect your promotion chances at all being re-traded' line and off we went. After a little while it hit home that as a newly qualified A3 in charge of a trailer you were up aginst A1 L\Cpls doing section 2ic jobs who had done the same amount of time as yourself and you had an almost zero chance of progression. I would be at my 9 year point before I qualified as an A1, and able to take up that kind of position. I did feel at the end of my time that my career was nothing much more than making up the numbers in various units books rather than having a serious career which was managed by anyone. If I'd have stayed in I would be at my 21 year point now, and of those who did get sent into the trade at the same time as myself, very, very few ever made SNCO. Why units do not have career reviews as my civvy employers do is beyond me. No one seems to give a damn about their troops careers and only the lucky ones are able to get courses they required, the rest just flat-line. I've been out almost 9 years now, and I really hope things have changed, but I doubt it.

Re: THE DRLC THREAD
Dearest DRLC,
What is going to be done about DST Leconfield? Have you seen the thread dedicated to the ongoing issues that seem to plauge that place? Do you care?
Low morale amongst students - regardless of rank.
Why is morale low? Quite simple that one, as I stated (and many others) in a previous thread:
1.) Poor food
2.) Poor accommodation
3.) Being treated like kids (Phase 3's as well!)
4.) Long waiting times between modules with nothing constructive to do
I am aware that DST is predominately populated with Phase 2 students and therefore the working environment should reflect this. Students should march around in a smart and disciplined manner, etc, etc.
There is, however, a BIG difference between good old discipline and being treated like absolute sh!!te.
C'mon DRLC, I know you go on about talking to the HEAD and not the ARRSE in the Sustainer, so it proves that you pop into ARRSE for a look every so often - do us all a favour - LOOK AT THIS!
Cheers Boss.

Good idea GM, but I do hope DRLC, and the influential "Percy_Pigeon", will both continue to take an interest in the other RLC related threads:
