Re: REME / Avionics & Electronics Life

Why do some none Reme Techs hate Reme techs so much. Lots of corps promote quickly. Signals techs are pretty much the same as REME for promotion. I work at a RA unit and the guy living next door is Royal Artillary made Sgt same time as I did, he is on GCC next year and will finish a WO2. Yet none of the gunners are complaining about how others get promoted faster. As for Tech NCO's not being up to the job, I and several other tech's Ac/Av/Radar were on tour with the RA and we didn't make ourselves look like idiots when the shit hit the fan, we were out on patrol with the guys on the ground, the marines we were supporting didn't even twig we were REME, they just thought we were part of the Battery.

Techs still have to pass the same promotion courses as everyone. Techs do there jmc/smc along side VM's etc. If VM's etc. were so much more ready for promotion they would outshine the techs to such a degree that we'd never get a good enough grade to pick up off the promotion boards.

Unlike other trades there aren't a certain amount of cpl posts or sgt posts available which would restrict promotion of technicians. That is a big factor in the time it takes to gain rank, you don't have to wait for a job opening. As a tech your either in a class 3/2 post which is rank ranged from cfn to cpl or class 1 post which is rank ranged from cpl to sgt.

My final thought, If other trades being promoted faster than you bothers you so much then maybe you should have become a technician. If you didn't because its not the job you wanted to do then be happy in the job you've chosen and leave others to be happy in the jobs they've chosen. If you didn't become a technician because you didn't get the grades, all i can say is, we all went to school.

Current intake is September so you're most probably looking at next year once you pass selection

Just a quick question, think it is best i post it here.

I've heard from a friend who is in Phase two for electronics tech at the moment that their phase two is modular, and takes up to 2 and a half years to complete (despite all careers info indicating it to be max 18months), as each module has a 2 month break inbetween.
Was just interested in hearing the truth in this?
How long did it take everyone here to train? (from the start of basic to going to a unit i mean)

    cheers

You will get trade quals which mean something in the job but you also get some civvy quals. After your Class 1 course you will have a level 3 NVQ and a BTEC in Mechanical Engineering. You also get an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering. Further on as a SGT, you can get a Licentiateship from London City and Guilds in 'Leadership and Management' and 'Mechanical Engineering'. Unfortunately, as it stands now, you do not get any modules for the EASA license from the CAA which is essential if you wanna carry on with aircraft if you get out.
Not exactly true, plenty of work for those of us without licenses.
Given to the House of Commons 20 April 1653

It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonored by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by your practice of every vice; ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government; ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like Esau sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money.

Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you?

Is there one vice you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my horse; gold is your God; which of you have not barter’d your conscience for bribes?

Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth?

Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defil’d this sacred place, and turn’d the Lord’s temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and wicked practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation; you were deputed here by the people to get grievances redress’d, are yourselves gone!

So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors. In the name of God, go!

Utter rubbish!! the most standdown you will have once on a course is 2 weeks and that happens rarely!! Alot of time has been put into the training Pipelines to ensure people are not sat around!!

Where did you get that idea?

The only part of the organisation working to that timeframe is Harrogate, to my knowledge. I'm going out on a limb here, but the original poster made no reference to Harrogate or apprentice training.

For Yapper: Once you have passed all the hurdles, you will be allocated a place on Phase 1 training. No-one on here will be able to give you an idea of how long that takes but, as in previous years, this time of the year is generally better as you are not competing with those who have just left school (Aug-Dec). A few weeks, I guess.....

Start reading up on your Maths and Science!

    Good Luck.
