I was issued steel toe cap Combat Boots when I was in the mob... these were issued to me about 4 years ago. NSN 8430-99-869-6712 which gives you an 8M size. Unfortunately, they didn't ask for them back when I de-kitted so I am now wearing them on a daily basis in my civi job
Was this thread started years ago?
I was issued combat steel toe cap boots for telic 9, so why is this coming about now when someone somewhere knows an nsn for them?
I can't quite remember, but i do believe they were magnums.
They where simular to junglies, but had a rubberised toe cap, and correct me if im wrong, steel toe cap and oil resistent soles.
i agree with popper covvies, and removable knee pads sewn into them. am not too sure about the elbows,as when it's warm, you roll the sleeves up,but i stand to be corrected on that.the covvies should also have a few pockets in them for stuff like a pen(on the upper sleeve),a screw driver pocket(down one side of the leg,why do you need a map pocket?),and internal pockets, for other items you can carry, not forgetting a couple of breast pockets. i think the army has dabbled with steel toed boots before, and they should be issued to tradesmen everywhere. the plastic toolboxes are an absolute waste of time, and should be scrapped. bring back the old ones with wheels and an extendable handle(like a suitcase),and they will be a lot better. cant think of anything else at mo,hope this helps.

The toolbox idea would be great if our tradesmen spent all their time on the tankpark or in the garages. Probably not much use on a training area or on operations. I predate the plastic tool box, we whinged when we got the bigger metal toolboxes, the only saving grace there was the canvas toolbag that came with it.
My belief is that the covies these days have come a long way from the flammable poppered items of the 70/80/90's. There is always room for improvement in the kit issued, & slowly it seems to be happening.
i can see where you are coming from nobby, but a collapsable handle and a pair of wheels(about 4"),wont make that much of a difference, and sadchap ususally means you have a hard standing.anyway, that just my thoughts on that, but the covvies with poppers are the way to go,we have them in civvy street, and are better than velcro fastening. my main gripe was what was actually in your basic toolbox,a lot of it was not viable, and i doubt that it is better now(with torx and stuff),i think a rethink on it's contents would be a good idea, but thats another thread possibly.does anybody read this and take in what has been put on the screen,i bleeding hope so,and maybe some good will come of it.rant off, evening all!
no not really,i disagree with a lot of what you are saying, but also do agree with other items that you have mentioned. i agree with the expandable leg bottoms,i have myself struggled to get in and out of the covveis, and no,it isnt to f***ing do with my size. as for knee pads,i disagree, they are cheap, and are very useful, and as for rolling your sleeves up,are you seriously suggesting these are never rolled up,i think not. as for poppers,if the m.o.d.(bless their cotton socks)bought decent quality items, poppers would live a little longer. as for steel toe capped boots,if you've done your tiffy course(which i suspect you have) you will realise, that the army has a duty of care, and should make it mandatory to wear these safety items.as for pockets, maybe you just think that will be hard to iron, and the creases will be somewhat distorted. as you can see,i disagree with that too. as for vm's cooking in heavy overalls, why not put mesh in the places where heat is generated(except the crotch),to let the heat out. i wont comment on gloves,i never really had a choice, just got on with it. as for hats,we have to wear bump caps now at work(health and safety nazi's),with the brim, you lose a bit of spacial awareness. so i dont think hats should be use normally for work, unless a risk assessment means it's mandatory. but as i said earlier, the covvie trouser leg bottoms were a wonderful invention, for dancing about, trying to get them off. hope this is actually taken note off,and some happy medium will be found.
