Re: beeswaxed boots
Does anyone else find that morello stays sticky even after being left to dry for a couple of days? Mine just seems to pick up fingerprints, wich kind of ruins the point.

Re: beeswaxed boots
I remember a particularly bright Gunner in my unit on the main gate one day. The RSM came out of RHQ and with the kind of critical eyesight only issued to RSMs took one look at him and asked:-
'Is that paint on your boots?'
To which our star player replied without a moments hesitation.......
'No sir, it's Klear'
Cue shouting followed by sweating
Pricelesssi vis pacem, parabellum
Guns don't kill people.....proper grip, stance, sight picture and trigger control does.

Re: beeswaxed boots
Beeswaxing is not easy, but, when done properly will not have to be done again.
Best to use Ammo boots if you can as they are stiffer than the DMS crap we were issued with.
Brush very hard all over until not a speck remains on the surface of the leather.
Apply a thin layer of Kiwi black polish and shove in the oven for 5 mins on gas mark3.
Remove and apply a generous amount of beeswax which will flow into and all over the leather.
Allow to cool, preferably over night and then gently buff with a new unused yellow duster.
The black Kiwi polish underneath will shine through.
The beeswax will not crack as bulled polish does and now and again shove em back in the oven to remelt the wax.
Mine lasted me for 10 years before I gave em away when I left the service. They carried on for another 10 years until the bloke passed his KFS course. Now he wears George boots.
When I did my MTC 1 at 1 BR Corps Troops Bielefeld a storeman in my room painted his boots with Dark Oak Stain Varnish and when dry looked exactly like proper bull. So, not to be outdone I cadged some from him and painted mine as well. One of the drill pigs used to look at our boots and say that he knew we were using something but he didn't know what. On booking out I gave him the NATO number of this stuff and told him that was what we were using. He swore as only old soldiers can saying that he knew it, but he was impressed. Ben Brain was the RSM at the time and apparently he was impressed as well.

Re: beeswaxed boots
Davey, it sums it up when you say "so that i don't have to put the effort in bulling my boots every year for rememberance parades".
It should be the least you could do for ONE day of the year. Whilst bulling, it gives you time to reflect/think about absent friends.

Re: beeswaxed boots
Do one knobead, lost just as many friends, if not more than you and its not for rememberance, its for a pass off parade and I've got a lot of other stuff to square that is more important atm.

Davyskuller, I was reffering to Davey who STARTED this post not you (hence my quote from HIS post). Nice of you to start the 'I've lost more friends than you' conversation. Losing one mate is bad, let alone several...now who's being a complete knobhead?

Re: beeswaxed boots
Apologies for misinterpreting, but point is valid. I know I wouldnt want mates to be bulling boots for feckin hours before my funeral, would rather have them rip the piss out of me remembering stupid stuff I have done and getting ming-monged. Get over yourself.
