The vast majority of your time at trade will be in barracks. You will be posted to a "garage" and if you're not a VM fixing things, then you'll be kept busy doing awesome stuff like moving vehicles from one end of the park to the other. If you're really lucky they'll let you sort cam nets and tents out for the people that need them.
Why don't you reconsider VM, It's a decent trade, you'll get to get out and do recovery on Ops/Ex and later in your career you can become an Artificer Vehicles, who by virtue of their education and training are all fully qualified Recovery Mechanics anyway.

OK, If you’re fishing, I’m biting mate.

I am going back a few years, however, I lost count of the amount of times I've had to 'rescue' a job completely cocked up by a 'tiffy playing at my profession. Some of them couldn't even grasp the simplest concept of pulley ratios, and I do not mean when tired, at night in demanding weather conditions.
The better ones, left us to our trade, and considering a typical ARRV crew would consist of a Recy Mech, (note the abbreviation) an A Mech and a couple of others, they could bask in the collective glory of a job well done by elements of their Squadron, and the LAD as a whole.
Below. Something that I wrote some time ago. I cannot see a 'tiffy being involved in this sketch.

Spaz
Dont forget the other important in Barracks tasks, G1098 checks & vehicle documents.
As the CH ARV, ARRV, CR ARRV Crewman, Commander I spent plenty of time on exercise with assorted Wretched Mechs. On the whole a good bunch of lads, not necessarily the sharpest tool in the box but the Fitter Sections recovery expert. Spent my time laying out 3-1 & laterly 2-1 on CRARRV as that ensured the bugger came out 1st time; to appreciate the amount of work involved in recovering stricken MBT.
Cheers, Nobby"Slightly burnt out, but still SMOKING"!!!!!!

Heff think about joining the RAC/AA first, when you go for the interview tell them you want to join the Army after doing a few years. They will instantly warm to you, the potential to invest thousands in training you knowing you are only using it as a stepping stone will impress them....as it has impressed everyone here!!
Heff your a cunt stay away from the Army its not for you!!
If anyone is wondering ...No I didnt include the * in cunt, i just wrote cunt!!
