Nice one. We just need to get rid of the rest of the fucking battalions now and have properly manned and equipped LADs, with solid DSG support. Imagine that, Armourers and Metalsmiths where they are needed.

All the Bn do for me at present is release assemblies from stock and carry out welding jobs 6 months after they've been requested.

Hang on spaz, didn't we have this sort of system in the 80s and early 90s before the Bn structure? A serious retrograde step if you ask me. The next suggestion you will make is that you have a LAD run by ASM and SNCOs Tiffys or otherwise , with 1 officer to act as the CO go between. Not on old chap, what would all the REME officers do all day.
You see! This is why birds and CID don't mix.
You give a bloke a gun and he thinks its a dream come true
You give a girl one and she knows it doesn't go with a dress.

That's how my unit works, the EME does MS, goes to prayers and keeps his beak out of the ASM's business. In my opinion the Corps could manage with far fewer REME Officers, although we do need to be represented at a high level.

But wasn't the whole idea of having Bn structure to improve senior level representation. At least this is what we were told back in 1992. Personally at the time I thought it was just jobs for the chaps alongside having non spec ASMs to increase the ECE influence, maybe I was right after all.

It can only be a good thing to lose 19css Bn, not only was the CO and I believe QM sacked for failing an ECI re-insp (how a REME Bn fails an ECI I'll never know even if it is half Retards Last Chance) it was an embarrassment to the Corps.

At least the consistencey factor was there, they couldn't pass one in Catterick either. I thought that was why they moved hoping for sympathy with a new ECI Team.

You mean make job for Senior Tiffies/Officers...yes that was the cunning plan and as said above we are going full circle.get the lads back in the LADs where we can give better support to units, know the kit better and be doing our job again.

Part of the problem started when it re-roled from 5 Bn to 19CSS. The Bn was also split between two barracks and had to squeeze into Megiddo at short notice. The Bn had also done quite badly during an ECI just as I arrived and there was also alot of personality changes at the top. No one (and I mean no one) knew what vehicles/equipment we had on the orbat or their locations. The Bn 2ic eventually nailed it all down, allocated everyone a responsibility only to be replaced by an RLC chap who, possibly, wasn't as well organised. There were some left field commitments thrown the Bn's way plus the Bn was trying to get to grips with its new role. Telic came on the RADAR and although the QM wasn't everyone's cup of tea he knew his stuff and gave the coy OC's plenty of direction how to control their deployment - which they ignored. The rear party was to prepare for the board of officers and ECI but they had a bad time being pulled from pillar to post by Bde rear party. When we came back there was a certain amount of chaos to say the least. CO was leaving, QM was replaced, and the Bn had to get ready for the move to NI. The board of officers wasn't taken seriously by the OCs and I had to feel for the new QM (an RLC guy) who was a really good egg. The CO - who I never met and the QM may simply have been in the unfortunate position of paying the price of an inheritance that never really got nailed down in the time I was there from 2005.
