Re: MY LIST FOR BASIC
Plenty of twisters and a few more decent bungees would be useful. You seem to lose twisters at the rate of 20 a day whilst in training. The bungees will be useful on exercise.

Re: MY LIST FOR BASIC
Can I also recommend some things which are a good idea to either supplement what you get issued or what you won't get full stop and it saves you getting ripped off by the NAAFI:
Decent reliable torch with red or blue filter and spare batteries
Tent pegs
Min of 3 bungees
Black masking tape to tape up all the loose straps on your webbing and Bergan
Military style wash kit with built in plastic mirror (do they still insist on shaving in the field using shaving stick and brush? If not get a cheap elecric razor, nothing worse than trying to shave in the field).
A decent razor. Do not get cheap shi'ite disposal razors guys as you will be shaving at least once a day and you hack your faces and throats to pieces with disposables.
E45 or Nivea moisturiser. Again, you will look like alepar from shaving everyday. Squares your skin away making you even more attractive to the female Sigs girls.
Decent set of flip flops (I still have mine 11 years down the line. yes they look fcuking minging but they have sentimental value as they have been everywhere with me.
2 decent towels.
Needles
Black & green cotton
Nailbrush
Not so sure about the washing powder. At Bassingbourne we paid a set amount each week and had our our laundry done for us.
Mark every bit of military kit you get issued as either some barsteward will either try and nick it or you will get gripped by your instructors for not having it marked.
Don't lend anybody your phone or money.
Good luck to you all. It can be hard at times but just griz through.Royal Engineers - bodging stuff since 1856

Re: MY LIST FOR BASIC
If your buying padlocks then it might be easier to buy a 'keyed alike' set of them. With multiple padlocks, only having to use one key to open all the locks could save you some hassle in phase 1.

Re: MY LIST FOR BASIC
Zinc oxide tape. That's the only sensible one that hasn't been mentioned yet.
After a week in Basic you'll know why.

Re: MY LIST FOR BASIC
Jane,
Bungees are long pieces of elastic rope with wire hooks at each end. Typical length is 12-36 inches. Get 6 in the longer lengths. Any military supply store will have them. MAKE SURE THEY ARE GREEN/BLACK!!!
They're used for all manner of things, but most especially in basic for making "bashas".
OK, enough wah material from this callsign.
Best of luck!

Re: MY LIST FOR BASIC
Zinc Oxide Tape is for your feet I think Janedoe, Don't worry about being over prepared when you have something they don't I'm sure its not you who is going to feel the odd one out for forgetting it lol

Question, what are stranglers? and in response to the bungee's, its not mentioned on my kit list but what is mentioned is a foot long inch wide piece of elastic?
