Discuss MY LIST FOR BASIC in Regular Soldier Recruitment on The Army Rumour Service; I've just got a question! Do you have enough room for all this kit at basic?? Considering the amount in these lists are basically double what your asked to bring in the book where does ...

    I'm sure a lot of that list isn't necessary, it's just a comprehensive list drawn from several sources (this thread, kit lists for catterick and bassingbourn, advice from family members who have served, civi to soldier mag) to cover all eventualities.

    I'm certainly not going to lug all of it to basic.

    Regarding the compass, do you not need one because they are supplied? I thought you'd need one for fieldcraft/map reading - that's weeks 2 and 3 isn't it?

    The insoles...I'm not sure if orthotic was the right word to use. The ones I have aren't specially designed for any specific foot problems that I have but people I know who've been through basic say if you're allowed to use insoles in your boots any amount of extra cushioning is a good thing.

    Has anyone thought to just take what you are asked to take?? I.E Kit list given by AFCO

    Would surely make more sense wouldn't it??

    Yeah I got a more specific kit list with my wedge of joining instuctions, but thats for the infantry.

    That's good then - I'm probably a long while off joining yet, but I hate the idea of being unprepared and therefor having no help when I'm unsure what'll be needed for something.
