I've got my BARB on tuesday, and will be giving in my application forms at the same time, can anyone clear up what i expect to have to do next?
is there a ftiness test i have to pass before ASDC?
I want to start basic ASAP, don't think any major issues are going to occur to slow down the process, anyone got any ideas of when i should expect to go ASDC?

If you havent done your med forms then you have them to do, also basic skills tests and maybe a pre-selection before selection.
However if your confident you are going to pass the fitness tests at selection and the medical, maybe you could ask your recruiter to do you basic (key?) skills test and interviews whilst you await your med forms results.

I did mine in this order:
GO AFCO, get application.
Hand in application.
BARB test.
Got medical forms, sent them off, deferred, got everything square, sent off again, medical accepted.
Numeracy & Literacy test.
1st Interview.
Pre-Selection (fitness test)
2nd Interview
ADSC
Then there are steps after this if you want certain jobs. Like I have to go on another selection course, so do Para's etc. for RMP I have had to have a CRB check. Then everyone has to do the oath of allegiance, then off to basic.
However different recruiting office's and even recruiters do things differently. You could do Num + Lit test before the medical etc.
Also you may think you have a perfect medical background and it won't slow you down, you would be surprised.
So to sum it up, there is no way anyone can give you a definitive answer, also remember that there is roughly a month wait to get to ADSC at the moment, however you can get really lucky and have someone drop out and get their place.

cheers guys, sounds good.
I'm pretty confident in my fitness and key skills, so perhaps i will ask my recruiter to have interviews while i'm waiting for my medical stuff to process, I can't go to ASDC before the 22nd june anyway due to my exam timetable.
what sort of medical surprises tend to occur does anyone know? the only thing i'm worried about was having to have a heart scan 5 years ago (the scan showed nothing though).

That will probably work in your favour mate. I got deferred on my medical for having heart problems when I was a nipper and got told to have an ECG to clear things up. They usually defer you for heart murmurs (though this is at ADSC level, usually), knee problems, asthma etc.
Pre-Selection differs were you go I think, I went on it a few times (because I was an unfit bugger) and it varied most of the time.
But its usually, Heaves, how many press-ups you can do in 2 mins, how many sit-ups in 2 mins. 800 m warmup. 2.4km run. Jerry can test. Icebreaker and sometimes interview techniques and team tasks.

they might luck into the heart scan so see why you had it and just to confirm everything is ok. The medicals can be lentghy though sometimes especially if they arnt fully completed by your GP. Best thing to do is if you havent heard anything after a week or two, ring up the AFCO to check theyve recieved them.
About the pre-selection it depends on your recruiter but maybe if you assure them you are ready to pass the ADSC (they will want to know run times etc) you could get away without doing it. all it is is a half day where you do a run and a couple of other things ie. icebreaker, pressups.

SS- think i've got plenty to prove that i'm fit enough to pass the test, so hopefully it will work in my favour.
Think i ought to worry about getting the medical stuff moving really because that will be the only thing holding me back. Never had asthma, the reason for the ECG and ultrasound was cos as i was growing my heart was going a bit spaz lol, and never had any real knee issues.
wanted to join up since i was mini so i'm sure you understand why i'm so eager to start basic lol...
Re: Were are you with your application process? - From app to P1
I'm eager to join myself but won't be able to actually join now until August 2010 but i'm at about the same stage in myapplication as you.
Good luck
