Re: Parent - Advice and Chat in here

    Hi all
So true, everything, our JS been phoneing, "I hate it" its Sh*t" I wanna come home. But thankfully he has aG friend that see's it our way and tells him he does not want to seem a quitter in his local town. ( there is another lad joining the infantry from here too also at AFC H)I try to get out of him what is so sh*t, it seems the boredom. Why don't you lads at AFCH take note and give them rock all for several days, then when they are on their last legs they will enjoy a sit down (and still fall asleep). I am sure they have not listened to a word because (they are kids)for weeks we have been telling them all hell will let lose.
Anyway our js seems to be slowly settling in and looking forward to a holiday wherever it is hot over Christmas believe it or not.(anyone know where that could be)
Come on AFC H get the sproggs workin

Finding it hard and feeling homesick. Of course they are. They're all out of their comfort zone.
But they need to get used to it and the British Army needs to know who can hack it. There's no point finding out that someone's below par and finding it hard to hack it when they're on an operational tour.
As my old Platoon Sergeant used to say whenever we got a beasting or something went pear shaped...."it's all part of the training"
"A suitability test? Sure why not? I don't mind wearing a suit"

"Everyone else can go catch a boat to Fuckoffty land"

"If I can't smoke and swear I'm f*cked and that prevents me from representing myself and getting a fair trial"

"I failed several times through denial and error"

Hi all, I am here every day reading all the gossip! It keeps me going, so please all of us don't stop.
I have only heard from my son twice, once on Sunday and once in Tuesday when his room was all ironing, one lad was trying to iron his pillow case with the pillow in it. Great laughter erupted in room, I never thought my son would be giving advice on ironing. lol.
he said he has had his haircut already, a number 2 all over, gone are the spikey gelled hair style. lol. keep the news on what the js are doing as when I read your posts I see my lad doing the same thing, and it keeps me going.

I think that's one of the best things about this thread. Due to the sporadic phone calls in the first few weeks (and in my case througout the whole of the course) as parents it can be quite a worrying time. For most of us it's the first time our kids have flown the nest. We're used to them being in and out of our homes all the time, knowing most of their friendship groups, knowing what they are likely to be up to when they are out (even if we're not 100% sure at least we know they will be back). To then go from that to not hearing from them for a few days and not having a clue what their new lives are now holding for them can be quite hard. I took a lot of comfort from here from hearing what other peoples kids were doing and also realising I wasn't on my own in my feelings.

As aztec said keep it going because I can guarantee for every 1 of you that posts there will be at least another 5 who don't and who will be gaining comfort from your words xx

Get him some zinc oxide tape from your local chemist and get him to put it on tender areas when he has his boots on. Once the boots come off tell him to get as much air to them as possible ie no socks and take the tape off. The medical centre at Harrogate is second to none so if they are really bad they will help treat them there. They are also taught how to take care of their feet so stress to him the importance of this. His feet will toughen up eventually but it does take a few weeks.

    xx

Dohhh silly me. I'm blaming my dizziness to it being late and nearing the end of a long week heheheh.

I guess once he eventually arrived at Harrogate at least he would know he would get good medical help hahahha

Hi my son is also in cambrai co he didn't get his first choice either, but you never know things may change.

he has been quite upbeat about all of it when i have spoken to him on the phone, seems to be really enjoying it, but in the last 6 months or so we have been preparing him for it - getting up early, going out for his runs and ironing making beds etc

    i will PM you too

Hi all, I have not posted in a week but have been in every day just to read the posts and see how eveyone's son's g/sons are doing. My son is feeling alot better now he goes on his Realities Of War trip to Belgium on Sunday he should enjoy that. He has had a few rough weeks getting shouted at and having to do show parades as his ironing was not up to scratch. He seems to be enjoying the fitness side of things but every thing else he says is tuff. We did get a phone call from him last weekend end when he said he wanted to come home, but we told him we where proud of him at how much he had acheived, and it was only for a few months and he would regret it if he came home, so he said that night he gave himself a good shake and a good talkin to and is just gonna get on with it. He had watched a Pass Out Parade from his block window and that also spurned him on. He passed his weapons training yesterday so he was all chuffed at that as well. I really am so proud of him I could cry and cannot wait till him comes home on his 7th week for 4 days so I can give him a big hug. I would also love to be a fly on the wall when he is cleaning and ironing lol. So to all those parents and grandparents who have sons g/sons going through this and wanting to come home, all they need is load of encouragment and support and of saying we are so proud of how much you have achieved, I learnt that in this forum.
