i had fright of my life tonight my son tex'd me about 8 o clock and said mom how long from our house to catterick, i thought oh god know he wants to come home..panick...panick...panick rang my mom, rang my husband panicking , sent him tex back and said just over 3 hours why... 20 mins later a tex comes back saying ooh i was just wondering if it was worth coming home for parents day or not...................sighhhhhhhhhhh ....bless him, so you never stop worrying Smile x

cor jxnxg bet you had a right panic lol, maybe he might be open to the idea of staying the night somewhere close with you then you will get him all to yourself and not spend a lot of time travelling xx

    Hi
You are all right, it is a rollercoaster ride and as Mums I think we would still worry no matter what our Sons chose to do. I must say though that it does become easier over time, even though in the beginning when they first leave you feel a great loss and emptiness that you feel will never pass - but it does .My son has been away nearly twelve weeks now - passing out on the 4th September and then on to phase 2. Good luck to all the new JS's starting soon.

I don't know about anyone else, but I find that I am just getting used to him not been here and then he comes home. (which is great, don't get me wrong) then it's time for him to go back and that feeling of loss and emptiness returns.

This thread his so sad. All the kind and loving mums who post here sound miserable. It must be awful having your teenagers suddenly grow up and leave home.

My son did his Oath today and goes in about 3 weeks to Harrogate - proud of him...YES....apprehensive...YES
But I think us families should get a pat on the back for bringing them up to take on this challenge, leave home and begin a new adventure with such self confidence - we have done our job right!

All that said - I'll still weep buckets!!!

Re: Parent - Advice and Chat in here

    Hi All
Just come back from a trip at work where we visited a park. There was a shelter that had a large group of girls and boys who were clearly drinking and smoking dope swearing and generally being a nuisance. They were abusing other kids as they walked by and although they didnt do it loud enough for us to hear we knew they laughing at some of the kids with us as they have learning difficulties. They just chucked the bottles on the floor where they stood even though there was a bin nearby.

Now these kids were probably the same age as our JS. I could not help comparing our kids with those f*****g layabouts. Ours are working their arse off. I told my colleague how i felt and she totally agreed.

It really made me think how brave our kids were to make that decision they made and how they will make something of themselves. Something for us all to be proud of. Something that those little shits will never be.

Sorry rant over, just made me think that was all.

I so agree Lynny, my son knows there is nothing around here for him, there are not even any little saturday jobs for him. Its a small town with 2 grammar schools and a huge comprehensive.

He has made a fantastic decision and yes I am proud of him.

My JS has adapted to the life at AFC(H) so well, that towards the end of his leave, he's usually bored and can't wait to get back. Just 'hanging out' with the lads doesn't hold the same appeal, and his mates don't have the money in their bank accounts that he does!

And yes, it's quite nice knowing he's tucked up in bed in Harrogate!!
