Deferred basically because of my old school!

    Hello,

Today I received the awful and heartbreaking news that I have been deferred from entry into the British Army due to what they outline as 'Mental Health' Issues.

This basically outlines what happened... Back when I was 13 years of age, I had a court case that was going on. My problem is that during this whole thing I got rather emotional, my anger levels raised about things... so my school suggest that I go to see my doc.. I have a few meetings with the Doc and as soon as my court case is over and done with I'm back to feeling well. This had nothing to do with depression, It was stress and it was deemed as stress by the doctor also. So when I get my RG8's from my doc they explain that they have attached two sheets regarding this incident, they give me copies of the sheets and they outline the above saying I was going through a court case causing me stress and anger and it was fine after basically.

I believe I have been hard done by with the deferral, Put me right if I'm wrong of course but here is my reasoning -

Referring to JSP 346 (medical information on recruiting)

    Leaflet 14 on Psychiatry - articles 3.14.18 - 3.14.19 State clearly that -

If the symptoms are closely related to or caused by stressors
(F43) then the severity, length of illness and likelihood of relapse are the crucial
determinants. Candidates with a single episode that responded to treatment and
resolved within 12 weeks should not be a barred from recruitment provided there has
been at least one year free from symptoms prior to application. Candidates with a history of a maximum of 2 episodes, each resolving within 12 weeks, require at least
3 years free from symptoms prior to recruitment13. For all other situations candidates
    should be graded S8.

My 'Treatment' was less than 12 weeks, one 'episode' and it was a lot longer than one year ago.

Any advice and guidance on this would be a massive help to me. I really do want this, been training hard and made it my ambition to get in.

Anything that you ladies and gentlemen could kindly help with would be much appreciated, do you think I have a case? and do you think I would win a appeal? Thanks in advance.

If that's what the rules state, and you have evidence, then I'd appeal it.

I'm defiantly going to appeal no questions about it, just need to know if there is anything else that can help my case. Thanks for the advice though.

That is what happened, Genuinely. If you don't believe it then you have no need in posting or commenting on this thread do you? I asked for advice not questioning.

there is a theme of 'feeling hard done by' here.

It'll depend on exactly what your Dr wrote up.
A rushed Dr dealing with yet another emotional teenager (and a criminal at that) is unlikely to see your condition the same way that you do.
How long from the initial incident to the final consultation with the Dr? that time frame could have been taken into account (possibly incorrectly) which has made things look worse than you feel they are.
It could be worth while booking an appointment with your GP to discuss this, all this information could be the difference between a sucessfull appeal, and another incident where you feel hard done by.
    good luck

You won't get much advice on here, appeal if you want to.

Don't get your frillies in a twist, if you can't take an internet piss-take then I shudder to think what you'd be like in real life. Maybe the rejection was spot on after all, hmm?
