Hello guys,

Ive been told that it can heal naturally aslong as I keep it infection free. Ive also been reffered to a surgeon to see if he can speed the process up a little.

Will they just throw me away and forget about me? or will I just be stuck at the Medical stage until im passed fit and good-to-go?

I had a cracking result on the BARB and this really does mean the world to me. I hope they give me a chance.

Firstly mate, i was in exactly the boat as you last august so i know where your at.

Doc's might have told you this already but if not they should have! I had to find this out the hard way.

Keep your ear dry, no matter what! Don't go swimming, be very very careful in the shower, if any water gets in your ear that's the main cause of infections. So keep it dry for your own sake fella.

No cotton buds in your ear whatsoever! You will most likely end up making your perforation bigger.

Now i found all these out the hard way, so please take the advice and don't make it worse on yourself. If your lucky it will heal on its own, if your unlucky like i was then you will need surgery to repair it (basically a skin grafted eardrum) and most of the time it works really well, my hearing is better than it was before my perforation strangely. If you can get the surgery done privately, do it! That will ensure the best possible outcome. I was stationed in germany at the time of my operation, so the RAF paid for me to have it done privately there, so i had better chances from the off.

Bear in mind though, this will mean a year bar to joining up mate. Or you might be lucky, it could heal up, just keep it it dry, be careful in the shower etc... and dont go swimming, i know this sounds stupid, but dont get on a plane, for any of these things;

Bit of fun for a few days? Or you lifetime career.

thanks for the reply. did they put you out for it though or was it just done with local anesthetic? i thought if you had to be anesthetised for anything it was a 6 month defferal?

Team tasks have a huge impact on your final grade, the majority of people at my selection dropped or failed because of team tasks, my advice would be listen carefully, get involved and be be loud by that i mean shout encouragement even if it is "come on lads, keep going", also with the team tasks i think its very important when you get told 1 min make a plan, you know what the plan is. So when they ask you questions you don't look a complete idiot.

Icebreaker, all you are doing is few mins about yourself, some lads when i went only spoke for a 1min and they didn't care, if you get really nervous speaking infront of people, focus on something at the back off the room and just speak slowly and clearly.

If your doing selection at Pirbright then the run is a nice track, just give that 150%, don't stop push yourself till you reach the end, it all pay's off in the end.

Pretty much what he said. I noticed when I was doing the team tasks that a couple of lads in the group weren't paying attention to what was being said, then when the officer asked them a question they looked like mongs because they didn't have a clue what he was talking about. Also if you don't quite get something don't be affraid to ask the cpl to explain it again. Try to be vocal without taking over or coming across as a no it all, otherwise you'll find yourself getting marked down. As has been said on here before people get deffered or failed at ADSC for not pulling their finger out on the team tasks, so you want to make sure you give it 100%. Good luck!

It was local anesthetic, i dont know about sedation, but for an impacted wisdom tooth it should be local, my dentist said i would have to be sedated but i went private and they just did local, i had a good DR aswell, told him i was joining the army and he did it for free, it only took 20 mins.
I spoke to 2 recruiters, 1 on here the other was my own they both said get it done before ITC, but whatever you do goodluck.

ok, the dentist said he'd only do them if I was under sedation due to hooked roots or something like that. I suppose I'll just have to sack-up and give my recruiter a call. cheers for the input though.

New to the forum, just looking for some advice on the above subject. I have completed my medical and they have been sent to Glencorse Barracks in Edinburgh, however they have been back in touch with my GP requesting i take a blood and urine test due to being born with one kidney to see if it is functioning properly, my question really is will this hinder my application or possibly stop me from joining all together? I am in good health and take care of my self, my one kidney has never effected me at all.

Im new to the forum also, Although i have used the website for refrence during my application (The Info on here is top Great helped me out alot Thanks!!) I have applied to join the Royal Irish i have done the intial interview and BARB tests, Sent in my GPS Medical forms and have been rejected for 3.12.48. Any symptomatic hip condition is unacceptable.

(To cut a long story short, Breach birth,hip dislocation reqular check ups through out childhood until i was 18 )

The last time i went to see an Orthopedic specialist at aged 18 where i was discarged with no further check ups needed. rotation was very good and i play rugby, football, etc and its hasn't given me pain since i was young, for the record i am 24 now the last check up was 5 years ago with no complications or pain since then ........... Theres always a but... in september last year i was hit by a car on that leg and went to casulty they advised me to see the consultant as a percaution, I booked an appointment but in the 2 weeks waiting the pain ceased and i was playing football again so cancelled the appointment and everything has been fine since,

So i got the letter of rejection, Didnt waste any time came on here read some others appeal processes (thanks again) and made an appointment with my Gp, handed her the letter and asked if she could help by writing a letter and giving me as much information as possable to prove that its no longer symptomatic, She obliged wrote a letter Basically saying that i was free from pain and symptoms, confirmed the traffic accident and appointment cancellation, and further stated that i was discharged from orthapedics without concern, and also helpfully included the reports from my orthapedic specailist confirming the discharge.

I have to apologise ive went on a bit but i know you Guys like details lol, but i have a few questions that i haven't been able to find, any help would be great,

Generally how long does it take to hear back, (i sent it Specail delivery on 17th of Aug)?
Do you think i have provided enough Info? they did say that if i didnt they may not write back?

Piece of string fella my defferal took nearly 3 months to get sorted and another 3 if you include the intial defferal period.

Just to update you my son has had his date for Lichfield 15th september, so he has only waited 3 weeks!

I have a written appeal to the army about my lungs (had asthma when I was a kid, but now my lungs are really healthy) from my GP , I went to the recruitment office but they said I have to post it and the Address is on my letter, which I lost.

So can anyone give me the adress to it please?
