Re: AFC Harrogate Chat & Queries
Hi guys. I have a few questions.
Firstly, I believe it's September '10 or February '11 (?) I can start attending Harrogate (being I get accepted and what-not) and I was wondering who is eligible to go here. I mean, do you go here and then chose what regiment you wish to join or is it only specific regiments that go here?
I came here whilst I was on an Army Look at Life course with school in Ripon and I fancy attending...
Thanks, Nogga.

Re: AFC Harrogate Chat & Queries
Hi again Nogga. Harrogate AFC, as I understand, is changing. In the past REME JS, for example, would also do their basic training there. I'm unsure where they will be going now but as Trig pointed out the above regiments are still open for JS at Harrogate.

Have you got any ideas which regiment you're interested in? Because of the changes your best source of information will come from your army recruitment. We always found them very helpful and very accommodating. No matter how trivial our questions may have seemed they would always find the time to make things clear to us. If you are aiming to get in for September you'll need to get your application in soon as places do fill up quick.
Best of luck x

will depend on what you wish to join on whether you go short or long term, long is 42 weeks long and is at Harrogate depending on cap badge choice

Re: AFC Harrogate Chat & Queries
Hi Ashleydodds, My son is hoping to go in Sept intake and so are a couple of his mates. I also have another son at Harrogate already who passes out in Aug!!! My son has done his barb test and waiting for confirmation regarding medical forms, it's still not too late!! My son who is there already did not go to selection until July last year, he still got in in Sept09 intake. It does depend on what Regiment you want to join and if they have spaces for that particular choice you have made. Good Luck. My son who is waiting would like to join Army Air Corp!!

Re: Junior Entry , Short and Long?
I did some reasearch and aparently people who got over 46 on their barb go AFC Harrogate(40+ Weeks ¬.¬) and i go 50 so..

Winchester looks better anyway, and is only 20 + weeks

Re: Junior Entry , Short and Long?
Chris the courses at Harrogate and Winchester in the past have been very different. Yes they both have taken JS through their basic training but in addition to that they have offered very different courses and qualifications throughout their training.

Whilst my son left school with fabulous grades he was also with people who had very few yet in some areas those young men far outshone my son in their military skills. Be careful not to equate BARB tests with an individuals ability to be a good soldier. This isn't always the case!!
As you are aware there is a restructure in the location of where different Regiments and Corps are being trained. Your main focus at this point should be where you can get your BMC for your chosen regiment.
Hope that helps x
