Re: Be Honest.......what's your 1.5 mile run time?

    Hi all,

I think I have a similar problem. I'm female, and I'd consider myself to be reasonably fit as I ran 1.5 miles in around 14 mins and a 4k steady state on my insight course without too much trouble and that was without any prep as I focused mainly on upper body strength (as I'm only 5 ft 1). Now I know that my time isn't good, but the PTI's said that it was my running style which affected my time and that aside from that my fitness level was fine.

So does anyone have any exercises or things that I can do which can improve my running technique. I know that running alot will improve my stamina, but if it is my technique letting me down, will this still help? I really want to start working on this now, as I want to apply for my AOSB Briefing this time next year.

    Thanks in advance :D
Why not add some swimming in to your training. I don't tend to do much running coz i don't like it so i do a lot of swimming instead (i train with a club and at one point i was swimming 6 out of 7 days). Its really good for stamina building and for improving breathing. It also helps to improve your upper body strength, especially if you can swim lots of lengths of butterfly.

Gobby, go on google and try a few different permutations. The slight forward lean seems a very popular style at the moment so you are sort of tripping /slightly falling forward, with head up looking forward not down. I've got a mate who helped me with style, he put me on the running machine full incline put a skipping rope round my middle stood behind me pulling gently while I ran, it worked a treat but was absolutly knackering!
    Good luck

the maths or tst is not that bad you have 55questions their all multiple choice and you get a calculator, scores are depending on trade but for reme i only had to get 16/55 so i wouldnt worry i hadnt learnt maths for 5years before i had a couple of months to start learnin it again maths revision books from school are fine i would look at algebra and equations things like that.

Hmmmm, is there a full list/table of all the jobs with the 1.5 mile times that are required next to them, or something like that, i want to compare a few..
I once ate an After Eight mint at 1945hrs. It was touch and go, but I made it through
