I called up my recruiter today to accept the place. My date is 7th October the same as you. He said a few people from the careers office were after that job and had been waited ages but they got a C grade. I'll add you now mate. I don't know which regiment that I want to join yet but I've been having a look today. Do you actually have a choice or do you just have to have a preference?

EDIT: I swear training for the RAC is at Bassingbourn and you have Winchester in your sig?

I can also confirm that 'Inspirational Person' is one of the topics that you can be given for the Icebreaker, at Lichfield at least. I didn't get given it but a few people did.

Bassingbourn is closing as an ATR. I do believe the last intake at Bassinbourn has already started there this month. All adult entry (excepting Infantry that goes to Catterick) will now go to either Winchester or Pirbright, dependant on where the available intake is at.

    Part 1 - Personal Information - 30 -seconds:

Name, age, where you live, who with, where you work/learn

    Part 2 - Topic - 90 seconds (see below):

They pick the topic on the day with all the points you need to cover. See the information below regarding topics.

Part 3 - Why you want to be in the army - 30 seconds:

    Self-explanatory

    Part 4 - First job choice - 30 seconds:

Training, duties, why you want it.

    The 5 topics are:

    a. Favourite film or TV programme
    b. The candidate’s favourite hobby or sport
    c. The candidate’s best holiday
    d. The candidate’s best day
    e. The candidate’s current job / best subject at school

Each topic will have pointers to help candidate to speak for up to 1 minute 30 seconds.

    Favourite film or TV Programme:
    a. What is it?
    b. Why is it your favourite?
    c. Who is the best character?
    d. When did you see it?
    e. How did you see it i.e. cinema?

    Favourite hobby or sport:
    a. What is it?
    b. Where do you do it?
    c. Does it cost much?
    d. Who do you do it with?
    e. How long have you been doing it?
    f. How often do you do it?
    g. How high up do you think you can get i.e. play for school, county?

Best holiday - this can be a holiday away or time spent at home during school / work holidays:
    a. Where was it?
    b. When was it?
    c. What did you do?
    d. What were the best bits?
    e. Who were you with?
    f. What was the food like?

    Best day:
    a. When was it?
    b. What happened?
    c. What made it the best day?
    d. Who were you with?

Current job / best subject at school:
    a. Where is it?
    b. What is it?
    c. What do you do each day?
    d. What are the best bits?
    e. What are the worst bits?

The pointers should help the candidate to prepare for the icebreaker, but will also provide prompts for the NCOs should the candidates struggle.

Nice one, see you there haha! Yeah you get to choose. As you can tell I've chosen Queens Dragoon Guards cause they're the Welsh Cavalry and I'm from Wales. Although they primarily recruit from Wales, you don't have to be from there to join. Not really sure about any of the other regiments, I didn't look in to them as much as I have the QDG.

As for where you do your training, Jammy's already answered that one. October 7th intake is definitely at Winchester.
    BARB test - 58
    Pre-Selection Briefing - 30th November/1st December 2011 - Passed
    Interview 2 - 26th March - Passed
    Confirmatory Interview - 26th March - Passed

    ADSC(L) - 17th/18th April - Passed, high B Grade!

    Phase 1 - ATR Winchester, 7th October 2012

Too tall to operate in a Scimitar, so Formation Reconnaissance is no longer an option.
Shit bust, but what ya gonna do.
Transferred to Royal Engineers in training - Armoured Engineer.

Wrighty, now that Jammy has given you the different parts of the ice breaker, and the topics you could potentially be given at ADSC, I'd suggest writing out what you'd say for each topic. Either free hand or on MS Word/Notepad, whatever you use. Print it out, and then take it with you to ADSC. Once you're given one of the 6 topics (Jammy has given you 5, but at Litchfield they also have Inspiration Person, not sure about anywhere else) you'll have it there in front of you to write down on the Ice Breaker form and learn before you have to do it. You'll have plenty of time to do so, so don't panic.

An extra tip for you would be to time each one whilst reading them out to yourself, to see whether they hit the allotted time for each part. Don't go too much over, I'd say a couple of seconds at the most, as long as you're not rambling on. But obviously don't be under the time either. I'm sure you can work it out.

Some recruiters are absolutely useless, 99% of the time you need to chase them up about everything. Keep that in mind the next time you're waiting for THEM to contact YOU.
