Feck me, having read all that I feel positively fit as feck and I'm a 45 year old 'old fart'....never been a gym queen or racing snake but have managed to keep some some semblance of fitness going partly through work, labouring after I got out or running and circuit training since I started to drive a desk. See a few lads at work in their 20's and 30's who like a pie or ten and can't understand why they let themselves get in that state.

It is not about dieting but changing the way you eat, if you look at it as though you are denying yourself something chances are you will fall off the wagon and fail, if you say OK if I have that pint I have to do an extra 30 mins cardio it isn't such a chore. I have cut down on processed food, actually turned into a tofu eating veggie but only for health reasons, started running again will be back on the push bike soon as well. I have lost 2 stone and have another 3 to lose.

Reminds me of a story another Arrser told me about when he did P Coy a few years ago now and no, it wasn't Private Golden.

They'd been running about, tabbing, carrying logs, etc for a good few hours before getting back in knackered order into the Bedford to go back to camp.

The Bedford 'broke down' 10 miles from camp and they were all told to get out of the truck and march back themselves.

Anyone who said "oh feck" or looked remotely depressed was immediately failed. Then they all got back into their perfectly serviceable truck and it continued the journey home.

..as we're spinning dits now....Eggbanjo junior told me on his prep for P Coy his Plt were out doing a 10 miler as per normal, at the eight mile point they were stopped and had to do the last two mile at the CFT (old 2 miler) pace which they had to pass. He said it was a bit of a 'lick'

Made me chuckle...Depot staff haven't changed much then.

Same here, corporate life excuses and weight came on, a year ago at 39, looked old. Then re-visited my diet with a diet health check thingy and out it pops that I was overloading on carbs and calories..big time every night potatoes, butter to taste etc. Then did not go on a diet but lifestyle change, reduced carbs, increased protein (but caloric intake to about 2000 a day), veg by bucket load and only some carbs with broiled chicken after gym sessions. Zero alcohol Sun - Friday. Dropped form 97 kgs to 85. Hit gym now back at 89kg and back in training for 2013 Powerfliting Masters. Running is back up, my skiing now has more energy and power. Come May when the snow melts out through the hills. Target is now 82kg for competition end of the year. at 20 I was 75kg competition weight, so soon to be back at the fighting weight. Who knows, may even try the Fan dance come September and see how well I can still do it.

Holy fuck, 5.11 and 16 stone?
    Ye Beast Ye!

You're in luck, they could do with more battle tanks.

On a serious note, you'd need to be able to realistically run 1.5miles in 8 and a half minutes, as when you do it for real in the testing you'd then score closer to the 9 minute mark. You're looking at a minimum of 6 months to shift all that weight, maybe even hiring a forklift. I'd guess at this stage you couldn't run a mile - unless it was to Dominos?

But good luck and fair play to ya if you manage it! Take before and after pics, it'd be an amazing idea.

Would love to get back to my fighting weight of 11st 10lbs (Light middle) but will be happy at top end of 12st - 13 1/2st (fuck knows what that is in continental). My round trip on the bike is 45 mile Mon - Fri so when I start that again it will mean to go without the running for a few weeks.
