Ask your recruiter :P I think it is though.

When I passed my Barb I was given a sheet of all the jobs I could do, and my recruiter sat down and went through them with me.

i'm new on this message board tonight

i took my BARB test today in chelmsford and got 65, i was told that was very good as they normally see an average score of 44, i did not get shown a list of trades but that's probably because i'm going into the TA.

A mate of mine who was in basic with me - before he DAOR - got 91 and that is the highest i have heard so far in my relatively short time in the military. Maybe someone else with more experience that i can give you more info. With regards to being uncertain, 59 is high enough for all careers in the army - rmp i think is 60 so i was told. You have to be certain of your career choice or like mighty said you will probably re capbadge. I have just changed from rmp to reme in basic and there is a lot of work to do before you get it - predominantly on my training team who i am grateful to. so get your decision first right time and you will not have any problems
What an absolute crock of shit!!!!

Are you a recruiter? obviously not, and the information you are giving out isnt even written down in a manual anywhere so its pure speculation :D

However, being a recruiter, and also being qualified to talk about and validate the BARB test having completed the Psychometric testing administrators course, i can tell you that the score is individual and the only comparison that is drawn, is between your score and the score of soldiers that took the test whilst in phase 2 training years ago when the test was being developed.

So it isnt a case of someone sitting the test and the score being compared against everyone else's.

The score itsself is very straight forward and frontline recruiters do not need to know anything other than the fact that the score predicts how easy to train someone is going to be, the raw scores that each test produce however are based on how quick you respond to a question, how quick you complete each phase of the test, how many correct answers you give and how quick you complete the overall test.

As for scores and what is a high average, again the score you get is irrelevant, generally from what i have seen is that the higher the score is about 65, the more of a nerd the person is :D

Seriously, 60 is the top score although the score is limitless in so much as the quicker you are the more points you can score for correct answers.

But an average tends to be 45-55, 55-65 is a good average and 65 and above tends to be a high score.

And if i was brutally honest i would have to say in the years i have been involved in recruiting, there is nothing to say that someone with a high score is going to do any better in basic training than someone who scored 20 points lower than them on the BARB, where it might be apparent is if you put them in the same trade class together.

The BARB isnt supposed to be a mystery, nor is it used to show how clever someone is, i have seen Infantry lads who will out think and outperform some of the boffins that get over 80 on a BARB test when it comes to soldiering, ultimately the test is just an entry standard and the one thing it cant predict is if someone is likely to bottle out of basic training ;)
