Wicked, cheers mate I did max reps throughout the day yesterday, and I'm feeling sore for it today! Looking forward to trying again tomorrow and seeing how I improved.

Re: FITNESS Qs & ADSC 1.5 mile run times- READ BEFORE ASKING

    Hi all.

Currently in the process of improving my run time for my AOSB in february, so I have a while yet.
However, my run time doesn't seem to be improving too much. The one I did last Tuesday was 9:56, albeit that was a best effort run and I was knackered by the end of it :D At a normal decent pace I manage around the 10:10 to 10:25 mark but even after another best effort (9:5 I can't seem to be able to get it under 9:56. I needed to get it under 10:30 before February but as i've already done that, my target before feb is to down it by another minute, to roughly manage 8:50.

    Any tips? :D

Go swimming, and try tabata intervals. That pervet Mag_To_Grid put me on to them, and they are excellent if a little agonising

If you train for 1.5 milers by running 1.5 miles, don't. It's best to run 3-5 times a week doing 5-10 miles, then test yourself at 1.5 miles every 2 weeks or so. Works for me.

2: All run times between 10:50 mins and 12:45 mins will be reccomended for Physical Development Course.

    EDITED TO ADD:

The times above are from ADSC, and not from any individual recruiting office. Each office may well have their own standards that they expect you to meet prior to attendance at ADSC, for any reason they wish.
As a result, if the time that your recruiter tells you that you must achieve differs to the time above, then listen to him/ her- don't think, or try telling them, that they are wrong because you have read this post, OK?

This site is the Army RUMOUR service after all- you don't know who the hell is telling you this, do you?

The Army Careers Information Offices are there for just that reason- provding you with information.

So, When i go for selection. Im 16. Don't I enter as Junior? Im going in for Infantry. i haven't really started properly training yet. So i think i should start very soon. but if im joining as Junior do i still have to do the infantry time in 12:45And Less? Or do i aim for Lower than 14:30?

Aim for the lowest time you can run. I want to join RE, but they wouldn't put me in for selection until I could run the 1.5 miles in 10:30. It's okay if you can run it under your time limit, but you won't stand a chance against the other recruits if you can't get below 11 minutes, imo.

I've been trying that 100 push-ups program but I really seem to be struggling with it. The progression from week to week seems to be too much and I find myself repeating a week all the time.

In fact, I think I started it a couple of months ago and I'm still stuck on week 3!

Only do slow, proper form pressups otherwise it won't work.
