Re: FITNESS Qs & ADSC 1.5 mile run times- READ BEFORE ASKING

Just a quick tip lads, when you are timing yourself on the 1.5 mile, do the 2 mins press ups and sit ups directly beforehand. I've been told this is how it goes on the PFT at basic, and it was how it was done when i was at chosen man with 3 Rifles so it will simulate the PFT as real as possibble.

Re: FITNESS Qs & ADSC 1.5 mile run times- READ BEFORE ASKING

    going from my last thread,

just over 3 months untill i go to basic training, now ive had my fun, time to get serious, What kind of training before basic training would you call acceptable, im about to quick smoking aswell, but im also about to start training, the only place i know where to start is running, which i will run a couple of miles 5 days a week, but i mean, press ups, pull ups, what other things can i do around the house and how many (give me a number) without any training or excersize material, all i have is a chin up bar.

i past all the excersizes in selection without much problem, but i still have a bit of a belly, my 1.5mile run was 10:30.

every time i start training like i did before selection i allways end up going say, ok lets do 20 push ups (for example) then i always think, was that enough ?, then i do 60 odd sit ups and think the same, do i do them straight after each other ?, ive never been to a gym or anything so im allways questioning myself when i train,

anyone doing training now ready for basic, it would be nice to know what you do

gonna check out a couple of them links from the last thread aswell

Re: FITNESS Qs & ADSC 1.5 mile run times- READ BEFORE ASKING

What I've recently been doing is going down to local field with a couple of cones. I mark the cones about 20-25m away from each other. I'll run to the other cone and back, do 20 press-ups, run there and back, 20 sit-ups, and repeat doing different exercises like squats, leg raises, burpees, squat thrusts, crunches etc. I'd time each time I do it, have a rest then repeat.

I did it for the first time on Tuesday. At first I felt a bit of a plonker with people on the field looking at me, but then once you get into it you don't give a crap and realize others don't either. You can't really create this kind of training in the gym and its impossible at home. It's by far best to get out and do something like that.

    Give it a go!

Good Idea that. I did similar tonight. On the advice of a mate I found a short steep hill and did 10 pressups at bottom, 10 at top. then next time i did 9....8....7....6....etc until 1. made it down to 3 then i had a suffocating phase hehe but it felt good

Re: FITNESS Qs & ADSC 1.5 mile run times- READ BEFORE ASKING

I'm an amatuer when it comes to cardio training but the strength stuff is pretty easy to replicate without equipment. Try adding weight to your body with a ruck sack and 2 ltr bottles of water when you do pull ups. Do sets 3 sets of 5 for example and increase in reps as you get stronger until you get to three sets of ten, then increase the weight in the bag. Same for squats, 3-4 sets + weight in similar rep values. Press ups are tricky, muscular endurance is different from muscular strength so its possible to be able to bench more than 200 pounds and not be able to do 25 press ups; so go for high numbers but try raising your feet above your head and vary between close grip i.e hands next to each other, touching, and standard press ups in high number sets. A good trick is use is shuffle pack of cards flip the top 1 over do press ups corresponding with the number value of the card take 10 seconds flip the next one and alternate press up style between each card until your done with the pack. Try doing crunches and do them slowly to build up stomach strength instead of sit ups and in sets as before. Another guy recommended leg raises and so do I for what its worth, they a brilliant for strengthening your lower abs and hips flexors. Anyway thats my two pence worth, disregard freely.

To be honest a good pair of shoes, maybe a bicycle and some free weights will cost you a lot less than a years Gym members and it will get you fitter quicker as well (if you train regularly).

I think the heaves arent actually used as a minimum required number. they are simply used to give the selection staff a further indicator of your physical condition. Might be wrong tho and if so someone will correct me very quickly.
