Well, I've applied as a CMT with the TA, and have not progressed beyond submitting my forms. I think anything involving the TA will take longer than I had anticipated (which is fine) ... it gives me time to train more.

What have you applied for? And how's your training going? When do you think you'll be doing the physical etc?
wicked!, i initially was gonna join up with the TA as a musician, but I thought if I was gonna get fit I might as well get fit for the regular army lol... And im applying for music (hopefully band of the life guards) and I got an audition down there in a couple of weeks...

erm physical?? well, I'm doing the run in 15 mins, which isnt brilliant, but Ive literally gone from doing nothing to running and whatnot from august til now, plus my recruiting officer said he'd put me in when i could do the run in 13.30, so am looking at march hopefully

Good on you for applying for the Regs !!! And best of luck with your audition ... and of course, the remainder of the application process.
Do you only have to do the run, or do you do the rest of the physical tests i.e the jerry can run, press-ups etc?

Yes, I do believe that it's like that

Tabata! It's HORRIBLE! I was made to do it in PE and I threw up...don't do it!

Knowlsey - have a look at this : BARB Samples
It's a sample of the test, and the kinds of questions you'll be asked.

I got a really good score when I did that one haha...

Do they decide what jobs you can do based on your BARB score?
Cos I heard medics have to get a good score?

    Hello Ladies,

Just to clear up some confusion: The BARB test is used to decide what jobs you are eligible for. Anything over 60 and you can do anything.

The maths and english don't count as most trade require you to have certain GCSEs. I got a B in English CC in Science and a B in Maths at GCSE.However, when i sat their little tests i got a level 1 - basically meaning i'm thick as two short planks yet on my BARB i got 86 (the average is 37) my recruiter informs me they aren't part of, they are just a means to an end.

It is really simple, the one that got me mind was the shape one, my mind isn't logical like that. Yet the 'tim is fatter than jane, who is least thin' i found easier.

Anyway, whilst i'm here can someone whose been to selection advise the following, after doing your run can you go and have a shower? It's just dawned on me how sweaty and disgusting i am after my run and i dont wanna be sweating over an officer...Thanks!

This is a great endurance training method, that helps boost VO2 Max ... and we all know that running the 1.5 mile in under 14 minutes, means we need to have a pretty high lung capacity (along with stamina, of course)!!

The concept of Tabata is such :
"Scientists revealed that performing 8 x 20 second sprints, separated by 10 seconds of rest, can be more effective than hours of traditional LOW intensity training, for boosting VO2 Max" - Maxmuscle Jan 2010.

"The Tabata protocol is a high-intensity training regimen that produces remarkable results. A Tabata workout (also called a Tabata sequence) is an interval training cycle of 20 seconds of maximum intensity exercise, followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated without pause 8 times for a total of four minutes. In a group context, you can keep score by counting how many lifts/jumps/whatever you do in each of the 20 second rounds. The round with the smallest number is your score. " - eZineArticles

After finding these articles, I thought I might post them up here, and also mention that I'd be trying this out, at some point in the future. :D
Thanks for posting, someone mentioned this to me only last night when doing some running. Will have to give it a go and see how it goes!

4224blue... you do take a shower after 1.5run. At my selection we were only given 5mins to look presentable for the interview...

    All the BEST!!!
