Hello ladies, not been here for a while. Hope everybody is okay.
Update - I've put weight on :'( gonna get back into all this army stuff cos I've gone right off track! Any tips?Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever - Lance Armstrong

i cant believe i go to pre-selection on thursday, it has gone so quickly and my run time still isnt good enough :( i am really worried about it, i know my recrutment officer said it is just a trial pre-selection for me to see what its like, but i still wanna do well at it.

I don't think you should worry about pre-selection so much. I know you want to do well in it, but it's more for you to gauge where you are with your training and what you need to improve, in order to do well at Selection. Think of it like driving lessons .... it's there to help your practice for the final test. You can ask questions, make a few mistakes and pick up on what your weaknesses (as well as strengths) are and then improve on them.
I think the idea of pre-selection is fantastic, and I cannot wait to get a date for mine. I would love the see where I am in terms of fitness etc.
You'll be fine ... just remember to try your hardest, but don't be disappointed if you don't feel you've done well ... you still have time to improve. Ask for constructive criticism and feedback when you're there, as to how you can improve your fitness or better prepare for selection ... and listen to the advice given to you. I have no idea that you will make a success of it.

Ok, first tip ... let's not stress about the fact that you've put weight on. Now, you focus on what you will be doing to get it off.
BUT, you need to address the reason behind putting it on in the first place? If you don't, you'll be on this yo-yo weight-gain and weight-loss ride, and it's never going to get better. Did you stop exercising as much as you used to; were you eating junk food; etc etc? Formulate a plan (a nutrition and exercise plan) and stick to it! Commitment is what you need right now. Maybe you also need to remind yourself why you're doing all of this .... as sometimes we lose focus. I've done it ... and I'm sure others have too!
Second tip ... Give yourself a break. Pick up from where you've left off, but put some more effort in, and work harder. Don't kill yourself, and don't beat yourself up ... but think about where you want to be in a month's time, and work towards achieving that goal!

That's fantastic! What's your time like now? I haven't been out and timed myself for ages either but I really should. Have you got the whole 14 mins for yours? I've got up to 12:30 but I really want to get down to 11:30 or less.
Our head BMF guy had us doing something called tabata training last week. It's kind of intervals but very short and sharp - 1 min of 100% effort, 1 min rest and so on. I spent most of my 1 minute rest trying not to barf :(I am woman. I am invincible. I am tired.

Bmi check? How strict do the army apply the bmi? I'm over the healthy line by quite a way but I do a lot of weight training so I have quite a stocky build (which really aids my run times... ) seems a bit unfair if your generally fit an healthy to just stick to the bmi. Congrats with the run time improvement, you should be very proud!
I have my BARB booked for wednesday... eek.

S_G, I was really busy with exams and just got lazy really :( I have no excuse for the past 3 weeks or so though. I have been watching what I eat today and will have to do some circuits or something to ease me back into it. And last time, I wasn't really pushing myself hard enough.
I think they're pretty strict on the BMI thing! But you'll have to ask Knowlesy.Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever - Lance Armstrong
