I collected my js on Friday as well, as far as i understand rail warrants are there for the long leave periods not for spontaneous free weekends. And your right the weather was atrocious, at times i couldnt see more than a couple of yards in front of me.
Reading through some of the sad and recent posts, it does seem as though something has spooked them to be leaving in droves. I only hope that they come to their senses soon.
I'm only grateful that my son is even more enthusiastic now than he was at the outset and as he says, "Nothing will stop me from getting where I want to go!".....................I was gobsmacked but he's delivered so far, big time!
Despite all hurdles, he's going to do it!
There seem to be a few deciding it's not for them. That's not a reflection on them, their parents or the staff. It's just that they've realised it's not their bag. There is absolutely no shame in that whatsoever.
Our boy has had his ups and downs but he's quite sure this is his thing. If he decided after giving it some thought that it wasn't, then fair play to him. He had a few mates leave during AFC and they've taken the first steps to moving on to other careers.
There isn't many who know at 16 what they want to do for the rest of their lives. But if someone joins up then experiences the Army way only to realise it isn't what they expected, it'd be madness to expect them to put up with being in a job they can't be happy in. Not only for their sake but for everyones; parents and colleagues alike.
We all hear the phrase "Tried it, didn't like it'. Nowt wrong with that.
The right thing to do is wish them luck in whatever they choose for the future.
Spot on....I bet theres none of us 22 year plus guys who havent thought about binning it whilst in training, ops or normal work during our service. My lad admitted when he went through AFC that his mates and himself went through the trauma of deciding to withdraw on a weekly basis (he's so pleased he stuck with it now though). Its no shame in DAOR if they decide to but they have to realise re-enlistment isnt as easy now a days and I guarantee at least half of them will come back down the ACIOs within 18 months to try. Hope everything ends well with them all.
Hi, Yes I am afraid I am now one of those parents who may have to say goodbye for now!!! :( My JS is supposed to be leaving on Friday!! Although we still have a very slight glimmer of hope, he feels confused!!! He wants to go in as a regular very determined at that. He says AFC course is far too long and is bored especially in the evenings!! He loves what he does in the day time. He is still working hard and exceeding at what he does. Has passed every challenge thrown at him. His Corporal has said he will make a fine soldier. He has his interview tomorrow with the CO I think, hope he may well change his mind. If not he will be home. I am very afraid he may regret in a few weeks, as he wants to still join up. I feel like I am talking to a brick wall!!! Even the company Major has spoken to him and gave him praise of how well he has done. He did tell me that made him feel very proud. For 24 hours after that he thought of staying!!! I am on that roller coaster ride again!!! :(
On the Passing in day there were pictures of our JS in thier sections. One of the pictures was all our JS around a tank. Does anyone know how we can obtain a copy of that picture?

At passing-in parade when we were in the theatre they did say that all photos of JS´s throughout the year that they had would be put on a disc for everyone that passed out in August 2010. x
