And have they left home? Im confused on that score. He thinks he has. but he'll be home ten weeks this year, and some weekends. Do I keep his bedroom or make a study/games room? Will he still expect free board and lodge with a laundry maid service and house elf still thrown in...
It seems to me that this image I had, of him being grown up, leaving home and making his own way in life was a bit premature. Maybe its time for some new house rules, or I will get my study

Re: Parent - Advice and Chat in here.
To be fair ours wasnt a great companion when he was home in October, and I had a little moan about him on here after he had gone back, but, we live too far for a weekend visit so we dont mind looking after him while he's with us (or his 19yr old combat veteran brother). Their bedroom is how they left it, (but tidier) a bit of a teenagers playpen, all flatscreens and computers, none of which get used now. My daughter has her eyes on their room, but shes not getting it!

Re: Parent - Advice and Chat in here.
I suppose my lad was similar to this for the first half of Harrogate but I gave him the gypsie warning quite early on about the way he treats his mum and his brother and sister and thats its not an hotel. As previously said he quickly adapted to throwing £40-£50 lodge money to his mum, offer me fuel money (which i rarely accept) and keeping his room semi tidy, he had grown up around a Squaddie enviroment so this wasnt a problem really. You have to be cruel to be kind in some respects but over the last two years since leaving training when he comes home for leave he is a maturer lad for it. I can see there is a lot of frustration from parents but also imagine if they were stuck at home, hanging around street corners doing God Knows what or getting under your feet sat on Play stations all day. Id definately make House rules for Christmas and Im sure Trig or any other Instructors on here would agree your not there slaves and that they would be appalled if they knew JS from their sections were treating parents like Gophers/slaves. Remember they get food and accomodation back during leave periods so with that extra cash a few quid lodge isnt a hard ship.

Re: Parent - Advice and Chat in here.
My JS is back on form tonight! Why do they have to scare us? I didnt sleep a wink last night worrying about him but he is fine again today. He is a bit upset as one of his mates has handed in his notice.
I reminded him that he will get used to people leaving during his army career. Its tough for them and us.
Oh the stress of it all. LOL

looking at some of the older threads looks like they handed out stripes towards the end of January. I think some were told if they were 1,2,3 etc after october leave

I dont know if this hapened across all platoons / sections so can only comment for my js.
