my js said that he might not be able to come home this weekend :( because he missed his sport as he was having his xmas lunch. seems a little harsh a he can't be in two places at once. any advice is greatfully recieved thanks
That seems very strange indeed. Is your son sure someone isn't playing some kind of prank on him?? If he was told he had to go to the xmas lunch rather than his sport then he can hardly be expected to miss out this weekend because of that. I'd suggest he goes to have a quiet chat with his Platoon Sgt and ask for some clarification. As far as I'm aware they have a board which outlines what they are supposed to do on each day (I think it's called something like part 1 orders (??) ) as long as he has followed what is on his itinerary he shouldn't have any consequences. Trig or Disco are probably better placed than I to comment on this (and will hopefully correct my terminology ). It does seem strange though and like you said somewhat harsh.
Hopefully it is someone's idea of a joke and you'll have him home for the weekend xxx

My son had to clean the parade square by picking leaves up for a few hours as he didnt attend his sports and skills due to being on orion.

my js said last nite that thier getting locker inspection evry day so corp can find a reason to stop their free wkend. my js takes it on the chin and says "surprise, Surprise, we get this evry time it gets close to free wkend time, well if we cant go out we cant go out, its only 2 wks til leave" i think its to train em never to expect anything certain.
Hey to you all Ive been reading the posts over the last few months, feeling both up and down by all the different stories comments etc. Then it finally came we took our son to Pirbright on Monday and it was the hardest thing I have ever done leaving him there...but was in the knowledge that its what he always wanted and it was me that held him back at 16 and made him wait till he was 18. He rang last night saying he hates it misses us all too much...and its boring, told him it was early days yet and he should give more of a go than 3 days...did anyone else go through this...cos as much as I would love him to be at home I also dont want him to quit. Desparetely seeking inspiration here!!
My son is 21 and went to Pirbright in May to do his 14 wks basic, he's now at Leconfield doing his phase 2. 3 Days is no time at all to decide if this is what he wants to do. I would try to get him to agree to giving it until parents day which at Pirbright is the end of week 7. He will then get to come home for a long weekend. The first week or so is taken up by paperwork, medicals, been shown how to iron etc and kit issueing which I think is pretty boring stuff Once he gets started on the physical stuff I'm sure he'll find it more intresting. It's a completley different way of life for him which will take time for him to adjust to. Hope this has been of some help to you. x x

Everyone goes through this and the first week of admin and getting to know the routine is boring. The first four or five weeks are the worst part of it but gives the training staff chance to bond the sections together. Just remind him of the two years wait to get in and also tell him not to use the DAOR option until close up to his 12 week point as things will get better and easier once training/adventure training etc kicks in. Everyone has been through home sickness at some stage even us old crusties.

Sounds a bit fishy to me, if the situation persists I would ring up and check, before that I would make sure your JS is clear on what is happening however. The Christmas lunch is served to the whole Company at once, there fore all personnel from your JS’s Company would be there. The only people who can restrict weekend travel are the Company PS (who incidentally were serving the dinner) so as you can see something doesn’t sit quite right.

Sorry Mandy but I would have to question this, if Orion is Orion Venture then that is a Company Organised event, the only people able to assign extra work are your JS’s own Permanent Staff, they also would have been on Orion Venture at the same time as your son so hardly likely to allocate minor AGAI action to a soldier who was with them during the sport and skill. I don’t doubt he did extra work but am extremely sceptical as to whether it was for the reason stated by your son.
Just really repeating what everyone else is saying.
3 days is not nearly enough time to make an informed decision.
My son applied for AFC at 16 and was medically deferred, he then took a wrong turn in life but this year in March aged almost 19 he applied for CIC at Catterick, got fit, passed selection in April and went in May. It has been a 6 month emotional rollercoaster which I wouldn't wish on anyone. It was boring at the start, illness and injuries meant he felt apart from section, racism, bullying, clashes of personality, his attitude, rubbish with money - you name it we've had it, sleepless nights, stress etc etc.
But ...... he's come through passes out next week - proud of his determination his text today at 0700 went something like "can't believe I'm still in bed at 7am week 25 buzzing couldn't have done it without you"
Keep your chin up it's a long journey but well worth it :D
