Would running 3 miles often help improve 1.5?

I tend to alternate between 5-6 mile runs most evenings, with a 1.5 mile sprint every now and again, oh and a few gym sessions when possible.

It's called Couch to 5K for anyone that does not know.
This is how I first started running, if you have iPhone/Touch would recomend "Get Running (Coutch to 5k) app. Personally I found at the end of the program I was running 10k. I used C25K to train for my 1.5mile run before selection and got 9.20 (got 1st on pre-ADSC & 3rd on ADSC so guess that is an ok time).Phase 1 @ Pirtbright 11/7/11
