Re: AFC Harrogate Sept 2009 Intake

The shop on camp has just taken delivery of hundreds of ironing boards, they are cheap and cheerfull but do the job. Unless you have already made the purchase I would get one when you arrive.

Re: AFC Harrogate Sept 2009 Intake

Wow! been away for 2 weeks and it's taken me ages to catch up. With 3 weeks to go the nerves are starting to set in again ( mine not his!) well thats what he says but I'm not the one out running, cycling, weights :D

We're back and fro to the office a lot over the next week, exams, and oath then they phoned today about his contract??? Any ideas??
Why don't they do it all at the same time? Oh well, my days as taxi driver are now numbered.

For those that asked about sizes, my son was phoned about a week ago for neck ,waist, inside leg, chest and shoe.

Re: AFC Harrogate Sept 2009 Intake

The clock is certainly ticking fast these days for our future js's. The number of weekends left have virtually disappeared. We have not heard anything ref clothing sizes but will be going through contract details during oath on 1st Sept. Not sure what options he has on the contract side of things! Anyone have any ideas?
He does'nt seemed bothered about the whole issue at the mo, but am sure a day or two before things will be different.
I was hoping to get him realy fit prior to getting there, but he heard from his cousin who has been there and done it that they build you up to the level required. He has always been fit through playing his football though.
Hi 1rrwright, when they first get to their rooms are the bed spaces alocated or can they pick their own on a first come basis? Do they arrive at the accomodation block together or in drips and draps, depending on the time they arrive on the day?
    Cheers Xrock

    Hi Suzie and xrock,

Im another new mum for the 6th intake, we havnt heard anything about giving sizes either, maybe it depends on what cap badge there in????. We have a copy of the contract , the back page gives all the options on how long you want to commit yourself to the army, they have to choose one of these. I was wondering the same thing about the bed situation. What are both of yours going in as???? xx

We are travelling from Spain, so the ironing board will have to be a last minute buy, as most of the kit list, cant see ryanair letting us off excess baggage.....lol.[/quote]

Majority of kitlist just been ordered from tesco or tesco direct - sorted... :0) :D

Hi and welcome, my boy is going in to REME for Air Tech. He is upstairs now ironing his new shirts and putting lables on things!
Anyone know what needs naming before they get there, I'm kinda going for everything you want back, but I'm not sure on the laundry what they have to wash themselves?
    Cheers

    Hi Suzzie & MM
My Son is going in the REME as a VM (vehicle Mechanic), when we had a look at the accomodation rooms during the open day he basicaly preffered certain bed spaces to others in the room, personal prefferance realy, some had windows some had more space and others were close to doors etc.
We will try and mark all his clothing and kit with his name or initials somewhere.

Don't forget his army number when marking his clothes. It a great way for him to learn it!

Think I've just about finished the kit list, at long last :D
He better pass those exams now after all this or he may need the army to protect him!!

    OK just panicking

I think your right MM, tight fitting boxers or good old fashioned under pants.
We have'nt started the kit list yet! But have got all his documents upto date. Just waiting for his grades to come through. What happens if they are not good enough for his chosen cap badge?
I noticed on a few utube videos that some js have their own trainers on during the first day or two of training, this is before they get issued their Hi tec silver shaddows I noticed they were wearing at the openday I would imagine.
One thing is for sure the army will have a job getting his off his feet thats for sure.
Thanks for the pm MM, I am not on facebook but my wife is, I will ask her to add you etc Thanks xrock

Hi my son is entering the RE as a machanichal fittter on the 6th, also changed travel arangments to car to accomodate the ironing board, traveling from the far north of scotland 13hr drive!!! so staying the 5th and 6th in the premier inn and got the last room, so anyone staying overnight should try and book somewhere now.
