If you went clockwise past the sudring there was a park area with a great big hill in the middle I remember Squ**e P****s taking us sledging there for a sports afternoon only problem we had no sledge only a large roll of black polythene which we proceeded to load with the whole Sqn before take off down the slope. and crashing into the fence at the bottom.Good job too as without the fence we`d have been on the ring road? Good days.

Twas a long time ago my friend and one of the things that obviously didn't stick in my Paderborner sodden greycells was the City signs. Strangely enough never drank in the Bolton 5 either. It was that recently my new job has taken me into Bolton regularly and i noticed their sign.

In my day, early 70s, the hotel immediately opposite the main gates of allenbrook on elsener str. was the 'Hotel Isenbort' run by a husband/wife/daughter team. Daughter was Ingrid and very delectable although I never did get to delect her & the food was always good.

On the far side of neuhauser str virtually opposite the main gates the bar was called peppies (spelling ) run by tony who had a very attractive liebefrau (I took her to an event in the Naafi - ended up vomiting all over her when she didn't move out of the way quickly enough).

One of Tony's barmaids (name forgetten) was some old slapper that used to scream a lot and frequiently dip one or other of her tits in your beer. Don't think this bar served food but ...........? Many a night spent on the old paderboner & kornschusse in these two bars.

The barracks bike, Blackfoot Sue was the freely available night relief service. Not very good but all she wanted was a pit for the night.

    Ah, happy days. :D :D :D

    Re: City Club Paderborn

Couple of fond memories of Paderborn in the 70's.

One was the incident in the York Club, opposite the Deutches Haus, where the big German bouncer was thrown down the stairs (might have been by the QLR) and was always seen thereafter confined to a wheelchair.

Second was the pub that lay on the brow of the hill about 500m after turning left from the main gates of Barker Barracks. Believe it was called Vinces Bar (named after the spic that ran it) and have a vague memory of him trying to stuff Paddy McCarthy from 1 CSB into the chip fryer one night.

Third was the time that the German was murdered at the rear of Barker Barracks. Remember coming back trashed from Reginas and being locked up in 45 guardroom along with everybody else that rolled back into the barracks that night.

Fourth was the incident when the QRIH guy fell from one of the blocks one night and was found stone dead in one of the Stadt bins the following morning.

Fifth was the QRIH pisshead - Manny Westfal. Used to spend a lot of time in the 1 CSB bar in Block 6 and was always in the shit.

Of course, my mind may now be deceiving me and they may just be self-generated urban myths. Anybody in a position to confirm or not?

    Re: City Club Paderborn

I've just found this thread so pardon the belated flash to bang!

The City Club was a regular of mine between 79 - 83. What a laugh that place was. Wilma rings bells, but I knew Pepsi quite well. I do wonder what happened to all of them? Did they marry Toms? They must all be at least 40 now if not 50. Dieter and Suzanne were the owners (he looked liked the bass player in the Muppets and she looked like a super model) although they rarely ever put in an appearance. John (who went on to own the Black & White around the corner) was the DJ (black lad, ex R ANGLIAN). Does anyone remember Sue Jones? Slight build, dark hair, quite a rough voice, went like a lavvy door? I think she had a kid by some lad in 3 RTR or QRIH. Onkel Toms was another great place. Had some right laughs with the Geordies there although on one occasion things got out of hand (down to one of ours). We ended up doing a fighting retreat upstairs to the loo's (I have no idea why..we had to pass the bloody exit to get up there!), I ended up leaving (voluntarily) via the toilet window, which is shown on the one of the photos. The London Pub was another haunt of ours. You had to get there before 1am or you missed the lock in. The 0055hrs dash from the City Club was a site to behold! Zita went on to own the Savoy, no idea where Tony went. I understand he went back to Italy. Zita was always good for a 'beer mat', but when you weren't there, she added the dashes.

I took a good shoeing one night in that Schnell-imbiss which was at the end of the same street the London Pub was on (Am Kissau) which is shown in the photos. Couple of Erics came out of the disco opposite (it was out of bounds to Brits although I think in some of your time, it may have been a squaddie haunt) and got a bit shirty. None of us spoke a word of the lingo at that time, but when one of the Erics strated pushing one of the lads, the message was made very clear. I was on crutches at the time, but I maaged to chin one of them before being put on my arrse. The German Police were very good though, which did come as a bit of a surprise.

One of our lads was murdered by a German just around the corner from that Schelly. I reckon most who served there around the time will remember it.

The old Red House was a laugh. There's a big Sparkasse there now. The new one never quite had the same atmosphere, although you could breathe there! The old place just stunk of hash.

What was the TOC H, down the road from Alanbrooke is now a carpark. They levelled it completely. Shame as it was quite a nice old building.

Great posting. If I could turn back the clock, I would stop it there.
