The RTR is rightly proud of it's black beret and will not change that. I personally think the black beret stands for more than a "seconded" maroon or green one thankyou very much.
That speech is out of date it has to be said. Things have changed... the speaker is, however, still a legend.
I remember the Sgt from RAC Para Sqn at Aldergrove back in 71.
Nice bloke, they shared the top end of our hanger and many times when they came back late at night he would walk down to us and have a chat while we where prepareing our Sioux and Scouts for next day.
He always asked sensible questions and we would have him sit inside and let him Play Pilots, everyone does that if they can.
Good bloke well like by his men and we where all shocked when he was shot. Took several days to pass away and his lads would come and talk to us about his injury. First man I knew who died over there.
Didn't know his name, always Sarge to us but proud to have known Sgt Graham Cox QDG.
john RIP Old Soldier.
Saw several RAC cap badges on maroon berets at Oosterbeek this weekend - I assumed these were Para Sqn RAC OCA members. Mighty fine combination - 'Death or Glory' on a para beret ! A few Recce Corps among the veterans too.
Arnhem, Oosterbeek and Driel are well worth a visit, especially on this weekend of the year.
and have people lining up to join us from across the RAC.
Funny that. Last I saw it 1 RTR were 'crying out' for other HCav/RAC Regts to supply said people to fill in the gaping holes..... Two fellows from my lot were dragged there screaming and kicking for a two year posting.....chuffed to be back from what I can gather....
