The current LG derive from the private gentlemen, and were a loosly formed unit during the civil war, Prince Rupert was a member of this unit which were also known as "Brandons Horseguards", very confusing.

After the reformation it was very embarrasing when the Goldstick and CO of the Life Guards the Duke of Monmouth, tried another revolution.

The Titles Gold stick and Silver stick still exist in the Hcav- why?

    And as another puzzler!
Who therefore were the "Tangier Horse" and the "Dettingen Horse"?

There is an excellent history of cavalry units of theis time by a Mr Hills I believe written many many years ago.
Tangier Horse were predecessors of the RHG/D side of the HCHAV The 1st, or Royal Regiment of Dragoons was raised in 1661 by the Earl of Peterborough for service in Tangier against the Moors, hence the original title, The Tangier Horse.

"Dettingen Horse" is either a reference to either the Horse Guards predecessors of the LG HCHAV actions or the RDG who had to be issued a new standard after the battle (the other one was shot full of holes the holder having suffered 37 sabre cuts and bullet wounds ) or even the Kings Own Hussars now QRH who were cut to pieces during the battle and had the dettingen horse as a capbadge

Lets face it half the army were there that day

God I'm bored Do I get a prize?

I don't know why you expect to be entertained by us - We are stuck in desk-land! If you're on post tour leave you should be giving us tales of daring-do and squaddie humour in the face of adversity.

    recce-cpl - over to you!

Lasalle , when ever i post something i get shot down , some bad man called hellfyyr gave me a real hard time about my opinions on RAF and RLC MOVERS . So i have just towed the line on issues . I do have a few tales from TELIC 5 and CAMP DOGWOOD but to be honest the impression i get from a lot of the guys on this means is that they have heard it all before . LASALLE could you tell me line on the high level of ' Bulls""t spoken by a few punters here , seems to be a lot of Wannabes , hasbeens and army cadets here.

    Re: REGIMENTAL NICKNAMES

Ok - there is a very simple pecking order:

    1. If you went through the window of the Iranian embassy wearing black your at the top.

    2. If your an Air cadet who is yet to do their weapon handling test your at the bottom.

    3. Everyone else is in the middle.

Of course no one can prove anything because if they do they compromise their own PerSec and no professional soldier would do that would they?

    So its a paradox.

However, as somone else said about something completely different: "Those that care, don't matter and those that matter don't care."

Its a public forum so theres all sorts including "wanabees, hasbeens and army cadets" and also journalists and trolls.

Theres no rank so if think someone is bullsh*tting call them on it! Top tip: if you really want to p*ss someone off - ignore their post. Works every time.

    See you about.

    Lasalle

The 33rd Foot. Later to become th Duke of wellington's regiment were known in pre-napoleonic times as 'The Havercakes' due to the recruiting sgts skewering an oatcake on a sword.
