Re: JLR RAC
I was there 84-85 when we had the big fire in the accomodation, B Sqns I think it was, all those hours running with the Fire handcart everynight on Guard duty, and it still burnt down. Anyone remember Escalation!! and jumping off the bridge after the caving at Rennie Lently. That was f*****g freezing.

Capt Popple was her name. I joined the X-country team just to see her in her cycling shorts, only thing is I wasnt too fit. Ended up in the MRS for 48 hrs after following her round a 10 mile route and collapsing.

Sandy gully .. heartbreak ridge and Tumili are the ones i remember. And as for AEC Captains we had some right Ginger Minger, used to always wear stockings though and give us a flash whenever she crossed her legs (which was quite regular) teasing bitch, I think thats where i got this attraction for Munters.... or was that when i discovered Beer mmmm. But het Bovi was a laugh and i never expected to stay in this long so it must have done something. And its true most of the lads who are ex JLR are the ones that are still in all SNCO and WO, and one commisioned. So it wasnt a bad idea at the time apart from not being part of your pension time (under the old system)

Other joys were 'Ball Breaker I' and 'Ball Breaker II', those 2 fantastic stretchers with tank tracks on, and murder ball in the ford. Oh joy. Cups of tea in the Beehive caff

Re: JLR RAC
Now there's a memory, the beehive cafe. i was there when it first opened 65-66.
As regards the bridge jump, Rennie&lentley etc. it was a nightmare to do and a nightmare to go back to 10 years later as an instructor/PS and have to do it all again and "set an example to the boys">
AND "DADDY" HALES WAS STILL THERE!!

Re: JLR RAC
I thought the bridge jump was great, Renney Lentney now that is a memory, is it still there, and what is it used for..... and the beehive could never be described as a Cafe, hence my spelling Caff....

Wasnt it the rear axle of a land rover with a T Bar welded to the front and a 40 Gallon burmail oil drum lashed on.

Yep, and the oil drum was full of rocks and had holes in so it would fill up with water during the river stage..class stuff, I remember sh1ting myself about escalation for weeks before hand as we had been fed the usual stories from the 3rd term troops..

William Ralph (Dixie) Dean (Everon FC 1925–1937) was asked if he was ever spoken to by a referee he replied "Only once"....."And what did the referee say?"........."Would you like a peppermint, William?"
