No idea, I'm long retired but did wonder why she was there as unlike the last remaining Yeomanry Signals Unit on parade at Cavalry Sunday (one that was in role before the R Signals was created) which does legitimately have women and ladies marching as members of the Squadron rather than attachments I also thought the QOY was boys only.

The rest of your post is just chippy nonsense. If you don't like the idea of women on the parade I would refer you to Major Vanessa Lloyd Davies RAMC, an Officer I knew once upon a time, who was Doc for the Skins, IIRC did the same for the Tins & was honoured for her work in Sarajevo aside from anywhere else. A typical Vanessa thing was how she:

dismissed the danger of being under fire in Bosnia in 1993 by saying she had faced worse when riding hard with the Quorn Hunt in Leicestershire.

The TA Infantry, like its Regular counterparts, don't recruit women and haven't since the TA Regulations loophole was closed in 1999. There are a couple of 'legacy females' from the pre-SDR days knocking around though. The TA cavalry/yeomanry/RAC do enlist females.

I have no problem whatsoever with females on parade, nor am I making some sort of sexist point, in fact quite the opposite. My point was that I do not believe that they (the females) should try to or be forced to dress up as men.

I suspect that the more Cav than the Cav comment was what riled you. I'm afraid that this is a "say it as you see it" type of a comment. RWxY, need I say more?

It did scream "How dare you have any fun or enjoy your heritage, you must instead........"

And you wonder why there is a shortage of TA officers with that attitude.

    Right, where's my bowler hat.

No doubt to some, but not to me, although I do think the young Officers should be allowed to play the game and enjoy their differences within reason, before everything starts getting so very serious.

As always, worry about professionalism first and flair or panache second. The latter without the former is almost worse than neither. Too often have RAC young officers been guilty of trying to fulfil the outmoded stereotype of a cavalry officer. This seems largely and mercifully to have died out in the regular component of the RAC; in the Yeomanrys, I'm not so sure.

I could march with my first (Regular) Regiment but I choose to march with my final (Yeomanry) Regiment. Both were highly professional & the only occasion where I've come across what you describe was with those choppers at 68 Signal Squadron who would make a 1930s music hall act cringe.

Getting back on subject, a desperate attempt by QDG but pointless. Politicians may dictate the numbers but the detail, including who gets disbanded or amalgamated will be left to the army.

Given that whatever decisions may have been made have been made (and kept) behind closed doors, it is probably premature for anybody to be wailing about loss of capbadges. I could just about understand it if the 1RTR cohort started to agitate, because the writing is on the wall in that case, but any other speculation about who might go is just that, speculation (largely uninformed).
