You'll not get a better idea of life on ops with the LD.

If you don't have any contact, PM me and I'll give you the phone number for Home Headquarters where you might be able to ask nicely.
i have spoke to someone in the light dragoons and he went through one of the journals with me but i had to travel from leeds over to hull for that and he did explain abit about what they did out there.

As for working with them in on Askari Thunder, the words cluster and fúck spring to mind. A complete waste of time if you ask me since the cav took over.
I couldn't agree more, I was there but I have to admit our OC was a pleb, a UKSF pleb I may add and he pretty much ruined our Sqn, but he left end of last year and a faults were rectified.

I would say LD and QDG the best RAC regiments by far, anyone want to oppose me?

Out of mild curiosity what metrics or experience do you base that on? While I'm not saying I necessarily disagree, I'd be interested to know whether you are just repeating hearsay or whether there is anything more concrete.
    Please no, not the face!...

Yes! As full a reply as your comment merits.
The role of cavalry in war is to bring style and panache to what would otherwise be just an ugly brawl.

    I know a 9/12L bloke. He's a good chap so 9/12L are the best.

I had an OC from HCR. He was a tube, so I have decided all HCR and HCMR are choppers.

Firstly I don't know why anyone would join a MBT reg these days (RTR,QRH,KRH,SDG and RDG I think that's them all) , when will they actually deploy in their role instead of doing the RLC's job in Afghan, and the distinct lack of opportunities because of this.

Which moves me on to FR, I know LD and QDG have been two the most deployed regiments in the British Army (Definitely in the RAC) recently as in, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghan, which speaks for its self.

The 9/12th Lancer's are incompetent (as a Regiment that is), may be nice lads although I've still not met any decent soldiers, apart from the transferees, I don't know when they last past a regimental exercise, they also had BRF taken off them which put into question is FR good enough for BRF.

The amount of people transferring/transferred from, RTR, 9/12th, Engineers etc, but no one transferring out.

QRL have only been FR for the last few years which is obviously a set back, not their fualt.

I personally believe HCR are a bland organisation, they should either be FR, be ceremonial, but not both.
I know its a pretty lame reason to damn the HCR but honestly I think their just sh*t, I've worked with maybe ten or so in Kenya and mince springs to mind and no crack what so ever, I should'nt base the whole HCR on ten blokes but thats all I have.

So both LD and QDG have a reputable last ten years on tour, which has led to them expanding, and pretty much doing every role going, especially the last 2 tours where they had their own battle group's with each Sqn in a multitude of role's part of of the biggest high profile missions.

I also know for a fact the QDG and LD's are renowned for their crack, which may seem a small thing but it definatley makes a regiment work, and as a whole they are full of good humour, which is only positive.

So yeah I know a good bloke from the LD's so they are the best, obviously

Whereas of course we will be out of Afghanistan (please note the -istan bit, an Afghan is a hippy's smelly coat or a rather poncy but large dog) when the Armoured Regiments will go back to their normal role. Indeed I would argue they are better because they can adopt to other roles

Anyway, the RDG are the best. They have very green trousers & managed to maintain standards even though forced to absorb the 4/7 DG.
