I thought the second from the left had a ciggy but then thought can't be - judging from the size, a Du Maurier (or some such spelling)?
The older I get, the better I was!

Far as I know we still had the ammo (we never actually FIRED them: lot more effort cleaning a 60-year-old design than mmm however old a GPMG was) so why not?

As to Scorpion, 02FD11 was my first command, such a simple weapon system - I think it was taken from Saladin with a few modifications - platform rock like no other and liable to give the commanders nose a good crack if you didn't move your head away from the sight as the gnr fired! The last time I commanded a Scorpion was in '95, OPFOR had a load with 50 gallon drums on the back and a length of plastic pipe over the 76mm to make them more MBT'ish - I think we called them salamanders or something like that.
So CR1 had a separate sight for TI (as in internal) so to flick from TI to day you moved your head? while we are on the subject, does anyone know the reason why they moved the TI from the side of the turret to the mantlet?

It does sound like a big gun for a little vehicle, they aint much room inside, how did you manage to load inside a turret the size of a mess tin?

i have seen pics of scorpions all dressed up, it looks like some sort of 80s cold war film set.

cheers for taking the time to answer.

Not this year,Gerry, apologies for my absence, have a couple for me.
Tanks are easily identified, easily engaged, much-feared targets which attract all the fire on the battlefield. When all is said and done, a tank is a small steel box crammed with inflammable or explosive substances which is easily converted into a mobile crematorium for its highly skilled crew."

We had just graduated from PIAT to Charlie G and 66 LAW, made us feel like tank smoting gods.
