Just to remidn you: The Weasle (or Wiesel) was never intended as recce vehicle. Its a weapon platform for direct fire support( 20mm BK version) or as anti tank asset( TOW-version). Used purely in the heavy companies of Infantry BNs(Jäger, Fallschirmjäger, Gebirgsjäger).
You cannot go on extended patrol with that thingy...(no place for all the gear/food/water/fuel that you'd need) ==> Wiesel as recce(for "todays missions")==> epic fail

*Note: I disslike paratroopers so i might be biased

The Weisel is a bit of a modern-day universal carrier.
I am a horrible civilian-type, but I work in the industry and hang around here to get some insight.

I thought they were withdrawn because under the arms limitation treaties they were tanks not armoured cars or recce vehicles because of the 76mm?

How many Tankies or Cav have died or become ill due to these fumes?? Because i dont know of one. Yet it keeps getting dragged up as a reason Scorpion went, i personally think its more likely to dentist bills than fumes (which smelt nicer than compo farts)

    My understanding as well.

You will doubtless recall that the traverse gearbox is fitted with a dryplate clutch to minimise those awkward barrel tree/telegraph pole interface moments.

The fault was that the clutch plates were being "lightly oiled" prior to assembly as it had been "some time" since they had rebuilt one.

Fills your heart with pride, dunnit.

I shudder to think what monumental fuck-ups are in the pipeline should CR2 ever be reissued in the future. Navy will of course have much the same reinventing-the-wheel problem when they try flight operations(1)(2)

(1)Assuming they actually get a carrier
    (2) -------------"----------- any fighters.

I am constantly amazed that the British arms industry that gave the world the 105mm L7 and the Centurion tank and the Lee Enfield rifle now just struggles to push out large steaming amounts of very expensive shit.
