Is it true that nowadays your recruiter would just force you into a regiment that is undermanned? regardless of what your 1st choice would be? Have I basically got to join a RAC Regiment that they want me to join?

You are a volunteer. They cannot make you sign up. If you make it absolutely clear that you will not join any other regiment, what are they going to do? Conscript you?

Don't let them push you. I let them (not strictly speaking the recruiter but the point stands) push me into joining the RMP because I was "overqualified for the RAC". Three months later, when RMP wouldn't let me transfer down (in their opinion) I told them where they might stick their truncheons and exercised Discharge as a Statutory Right (read the small print on the forms they give you - I am talking 35 years ago) and walked out. I then walked back into the ACIO and rejoined on MY terms.

It's your life and career. Don't let anyone else make your decisions for you. And strictly speaking, that includes people on this forum.
