Complete load of arse............. 11H (PAO) didnt use cap badges then. The 11H wore a brown beret post mechanisation with a crimson band, they never wore a badge in berets. Badges were for forage and SD hats. 11H at remembrance and reunion etc still wear their original berets with no badge. After amalgamation with 10H in 1969 the Royal Hussars (PWO) took the brown beret of the 11th and the cap badge of the 10th. After amalgamation with 14/20KH in 1992 the regt kept the brown beret and crimson moon background but took a variant of the 14/20KH hawk as their badge.
the brown beret can be worn either with the band (11H), with a RH capbadge or a KRH capbadge (and there have been 2 variants of that, black and 'gold'. So you could see different variations of the brown beret and its badge around. Also remember various TA and ACF units also wear the brown beret with their various badges and insignia, we do get around a bit you know! The role of cavalry in war is to bring style and panache to what would otherwise be just an ugly brawl.

Caught cherry picking by the French? I thought that was the issue that gave the maroon trousers? Might be wrong thou.
It's true that gingers have no souls'. I sold mine to the Devil years ago for 4 cans of Skol, 20 Lambert & Butler's and a go on his mother when she was pissed up after her 40th Birthday bash.

No berret badge
Makes you wonder does it not reading this thread from the start. Younger generation know diddly squit about military history or it seems where to find the answer to a basic question. Still having recently witnessed our finest on parade and chewing gum nowt surprises me.
That takes nothing away from what the chaps are doing in Afgan it just confirms a huge number of people on here have no connection with the Army past or present.
Treu und not surprised hey crimson hussar

I will be on parade marching past the Cenotaph on Sunday as part of the Junior Leaders Regiment Old Boys Association. A first for the JLR. I will be wearing my Crimson trousers. They are a little snug but after 40 years not surprising. Huzarrrrrrr

11 Hussars (PAO)
1928, the regiment was one of the first regiments to convert from horses to armoured cars; the brown beret with the crimson band was the regiments stable cap.
The ‘cheese cutter’ cap then worn was found to be unsuitable for use in the armoured cars (large and clumsy) the stable cap was more appropriate and was subsequently utilised.
The previous answer as to the lack of a cap badge and the colours (Prince Albert of Sax Coburg re;crimson ) and the kings suggestion by the king that the cap was distinctive enough, applies.
Old military saying re some of the previous suggestions; Please open brain prior to opening mouth!

Tankie
Well you said it, the question was from a Tankie and likley one from the recent generation of NBC wallahs.
There is nothing wrong with the RTR its the Government that screwed them and the rest off the Army up.
