umm, depends on your budget??? if you want all out i suggest altbergs, lowas and hanwags are heavy (well they feel it) otherwise, i had these bates falcon boots??? very good, lik trainers. but i dnt think they are guna last me to long. same as the addias sp109s. brilliant boot but dnt last very long

I have been to the Alt-Berg shop and they sorted my mate out big style. They steamed the boots to fit and fitted custom footbeds for each foot. I dont think they charged any extra either. You cannot go wrong with Alt-Berg. I have got a pair of Field and Fell HMX with a microlite sole for the field and a pair of Junglies with an extra padded tongue for in camp mincing about.
The thing that seperates Alt-Berg and Lowa (and Hanwag as well if i remember) is that they have a full bellow tongue like the issue boots. By this I mean that the tongue goes all the way to the top. I once had a pair of Alico (look them up) boots and the tongue was similar to Lowas and the water just just chanelled into the boots when you stepped in anything puddle like.
If you want to pay the extra, get D-rings all the way to the top on your Alt-Bergs as the laces hang down when you untie them which can be a bit annoying.
Away from custom boots, I used to like Pro-Boots (the originals) but they did tend to split around the sole or near the bottom eyelets. Of course, you cant go wrong with issue Junglies for that ally look! I had to use mine in Iraq in 2003 as they couldnt get me a pair of size 12 dessies for months. My feet sweated less in the Junglies!

same as mine, got them fitted too and they're really spot on.
I over-pronate which can be painful in some boots, especially heavier boots, and Altberg simply fitted a superfeet Green footbed to the boot instead of the standard one and they are much more comfortable. It's nice to have this done when they're made by pro boot fitters, not sit around doing it yourself with a stanley knife like buying off-the-shelf boots.
Actually I really like the way they are, I find it much quicker to get my feet in and out with the style of lacing already fitted to the boot. But whilst everyone rips into Magnum, I had my Magnum Elite (all leather) boots since early 2005 and neglected them somewhat for a number of years, and I've just stopped using them. Yes, 4 1/2 years isn't as long as you might expect from Altberg but they were about £90 and I didn't exactly take great care of them, so I can't help but say they're not as bad as people make them out to be.
I also have Magnum desert boots and they were very comfortable on holiday.

so what do you think i should buy for trade training at bordon? ive had no problems with the isue boots. but its only usualy officers that ever wear them out of atr isnt this right? i kn its worth spending the money. but i dnt know what brands to go for. magnum get a mixed response. please help. im off to bordon on the 19th. so ill get some very soon!!
If you have no problems with CABs stick with them.
not at all, plenty of people wear them.
if you find them comfortable, wear them. Plenty of other people do.
People won't judge you by what your boots wear. If anybody does - remind them politely that you find them perfectly comfortable, they're waterproof because you polish them, you didn't have to pay for them, and you won't have to if they break.

Happy days. That would be great, but with 3 members of staff missing I think the estimate they gave me is more realistic.

Just got a pair of Blackhawk Warrior - like submerging your feet in marshmallows.
I went in to altberg yesterday for a free foot assessment. Cracking service and they have finally proven that my feet are odd/strange/alien and I now have a letter from them proving that fact just for me to wave it in the MO's face.Hmm... potentially. What a sh*tter that I had to go off of my own back rather than the army accepting that my feet are a bit wider than most peoples and sending me to have my feet looked at. The MO completely refused to believe complaints about the effects the issued boots have on my feet i.e. incredibly uncomfortable, lots of rubbing, massive blistering as a result and my inability to drive in those fecking clown shoes.
I have to go 2 sizes up to size 10 L from size 8 L because my feet are that wide! As a result the boots are far too long and have far far far too much empty space at the back towards the heel. Only so much space in the boot can be taken up with socks before your feet start to sweat and smell ;)
The guy at altberg who measured my feet and was pretty amazed at how wide my feet are compared to their length. When I tried on a test pair of boots they had (size 8.5 XXwide) I was shocked at how the sides of my feet didn't rub against the sides of the boot. It was a revelation at how awesomely nimble they felt; Lighter and much shorter than my issued boots. "F*cking hell!!" I thought; I could walk normally in a pair of boots!

I waited 3 months for a pair of their walking boots, they took a bit of breaking in but in my opinion having tried Brasher, KSB etc they are the balls.
