Advice Needed Shoulder Surgery.
A colleague of mine has managed to give himself a Grade 3 Subluxation of the AC Joint, 2 Rotator cuff tears in a training accident and is awaiting surgery. His unit is expecting him to return to work 2 days post op. Is this a wise course of action?
He would appreciate any advice.

Try to-days Daily Mail, they quotr six weeks recovery. I imagine the post op pain will be similar to the original injury pain, quite impressive.
Anyway as craftsmanx said the Doctors will decide if he is fit for duty or not. Me? I'm now a civvy awaiting a similar operation and I shall milk it for all it is worth.

My OH had shoulder surgery, and needed three months of rehab, though she managed some light duties after the first six weeks.
The surgeon will make his recommendations regarding sick leave and rehab, and your colleague's med centre should ensure that these are followed.
If the Army shoulder specialist at FPH is doing the surgery, he is very good at making units aware that his advice needs to be followed.

Re: Advice Needed Shoulder Surgery.
Depends on the repair, I have had a Weaver Dunn repair which lasted less than 2 weeks and then failed, subsequent revision with hamstring tendon transfer and insertion of metal plate to protect repair which was removed 6 months later resulted in a total of 21 weeks out of 52 in a sling and loads of rehab. I needed 3 weeks post-repair first time round, 2 weeks is daft amnd will increase the risk of failure. Expect 6 to 7 weeks in a sling post-op. PM me with the name of the surgeon if you know it. Oh and by the way in my case it was ferking agony.
