Having lived in Paris for several years, I know it quite well. Where the Nazi flags are, there is now a WHSmiths which sells imported english papers, books etc much like any other WHSmiths but also sell £3 per can heinz baked beans. It is not the only place but it is the cheapest.

Tried this? Not Heinz like, but not Three Quid either (one would hope).

I was looking for clues around the shot with the T-34s and the Burger King joint, 'cos I recognised the location, but couldn't nail it down.

It's Yorckstrasse, with the tanks heading east, from Spandau, towards Theodor-Heuss Platz (NAAFIplatz to old-timers), and you'd have to drive that way to get from Brooke Bks into town by the shortest route.

Think you´ve lost your orientation a wee bit here Stonker! You´re right that it is Yorckstrasse and that the tanks are heading east, but you'll be a bit pushed to get to Theodor-Heuss Platz this way as we are in deepest Kreuzburg and Theodor-Heuss Platz is to the west in Charlottenburg (you must be thinking of Heerstrasse).

The original photo is quite interesting as it was taken by Yevgeny Khaldei, the guy who took the iconic picture of the red flag on the Reichstag, on 30 April 1945 The tanks are approaching the junction with Belle-Alliance-Strasse (now Mehringdamm), where I suspect that they swung north to cross the Landwehr Canal in order to join the fighting still continuing around the government quarter along the Wilhelmstrasse.

The group of women to the right of the picture had just come out of the U-Bahn station and were somewhat disconcerted to be told that they were looking at Soviet tanks. They told Khaldei that they had sat in a bunker (the U-Bahnhof?) for the previous week, listening to Goebbels reassuring them that there were no Soviet troops in Berlin.

I've just read his interview, and that's just what he does, getting the perspective right must be a right git.

The question that remains unanswered here is...if images of Nazi's stormtroopers during the battle of Berlin are what came up by accident exactly what manner of porn was he searching for?
