We have been granted field conditions,(So we can't claim the £10 a day IE)
However there is no laundry service (as yet im working on a few ways) the garrison has one with the local dhobi wallah but we have been told we cant use it. (yet, although the qm with the gurkhas is working on it to)
Can we claim anything to cover the period that we have'nt had a laundry service as the blokes are working flat out in the heat on a construction task and getting a bit threaders of having to fit in handwashing their kit in the evening.
Any help would be nice.
Use the RAF A/T system and ship your laundry to us at the COB, Basrah. We've got a laundry system here which is obviously under utilised. They like to wash the bag I put in three days in a row, just to make sure its extra clean (and extra shrunk)... I'd give up one or both of those days to help you out :D ....
oh and for good measure, you could always ask for some freebies, as theres a big pile of socks and shreddies lying in the corner of the laundry which nobody seems to want! Any prefernce in coulr? (they've all been washed as well!)
Filbert, looks like we're back on this again. Been done to death, but like I said before if we ALL put in our 3 sets of uniform per week, that's all 100,000 of us it would equate to roughly 52 MILLION items of laundry per year extra for MOD to pay for. How long do you think it would be before they got hacked off with paying for that lot instead of new Chinooks to stick in hangars. They'd soon remove the laundry and we could all claim!!!!
Who's with me?
Judging from your letter to soldier and the reply that you got I'd still say no-ones with you.

HMRC has made it clear to the MoD that there is no tax relief for laundry, shoe polish or haircuts. These are regarded as personal expenses whether one is in the forces or not.
A defence Information Notice is due to be published on this subject in the near future. Regrettably, the current regulations (JSP 886) do not stipulate the turnaround time for a laundry service.
May I suggest that if it really is unworkable, you approach your QM to see if the contract could be improved
A lot of that, if not all had already been pointed out on this site already.
