I think what Tytus… is alluding to is the time honoured fisty cuffs. As you are both in the Wo’s and Sgts’ mess you might want to wait until a games night then beat the crap out of him and put it down to high spirits.

Quite right, but don't wait for a games night, confront him publically about it(everyone knows by now anyway). If its important there is always someone who will grass him and then the matter will get dealt with.

Most of the advice you have received here is sound. What you must do now is resolve it however you see fit. Just out of interest have you spoken to a trusted friend of a similar or higher, say a Ssgt, rank for advice? Always worth a shot.
Your piers, the wives club, as well as your boss, maybe even the RSM if he is a switched on cookie, will probably all know about this and will be awaiting your reaction.
If, as you say, the rumours are untrue then nothing to worry about. Collect your evidence and take decisive action. But do it soon and with extreme prejudice otherwise you will loose a serious amount of face.
