I have an issue regarding transport to my medical appointments.
Since December of 2011 I have been at home on permenant sick leave. I have been paying for petrol to go to my weekly medical appointments, a return journey from my sick at home location to the medical centre is 128 miles. Over the last 4 months this has cost me quite a bit. Some times it is more than once a week. Since being out on sick leave no-one mentioned anything to me anything to me about re-embursement for these jourmeys. As it was getting expensive I asked welfare about it. They said if I want to claim it back I have to have business insurance. When i phoned my insurance company they quoted an extra £70 for the remaining 4 months of my insurance. When I asked at work if I could claim this back, they said no. I dont think this is fair as it is not my fault I have to go to these medical appointments it is the army's. I have been told by my welfare that they have checked with work that, I can try to claim back the money I have already spent in petrol ( just over £300 ), on jpa, but if i get audited it wouldnt stand so I would probably have to pay it back. Do you have any advice on who to speak to or something I could do to get my money back?

    Thanks very much.
The business insurance thing is correct. Did you try booking transport via the unit MT?

This is a rule forced upon us by HMRC and is subject to NAO Audit, so don't blame your Administrators.

I know the business insurance thing is correct. What I would like to know is, why do I have to pay for it when its not my fault I am injured. It is the armys fault, so shouldn't they pay for any cost incurred relating to my treatment? I am permenmantly sick at home now untill I am discharged.

Because it is a duty trip you should be able to book transport through the unit. If they cannot supply then they give you a non availability certificate which allows you to claim. This is no different than if I was going for a meeting at a different location and they couldn't supply transport and have to use my own car. You may find that if your policy only covers you to and from work and recreational use, and you have an accident, you would not be covered.

I have to get up in the morning to go to work. i would not expect the MOD to pay for my alarm clock.

You don't need full business insurance, it's not like you are using your private car to deliver bags of cement for a living. Most insurers allow for occasional business use which I suspect your hospital appointments could be under. Perhaps you could explain to them that that is the only reason you need cover? Some still charge for that - mine, Esure, doesn't.

Check your policy documents, you may already have occasional business cover.

Both me and the Kitchen Gestapo have to have business insurance put on our car insurance to deal with the regs and we have it through Churchill at no extra cost.

I'm surprised you were quoted £70 for 4 months, most insurance companies will provide the cover you require FOC.
I write down everything I want to remember. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it is I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it down on.

One or both of the following:

    a. You didn't follow the process all the way through to submission / confirmation

    b. Your preferences need confirmation by someone in your workflow chain and that hasn't been done yet

Your post implies somebody actually reads them.
