    Gout?

I'm sure after doing some on-line research both on Arrse and other more reputable site's that I have gout..fucking painful just in the middle of an attack now!

I'm not after any medical help (yet).. but more to do with me keeping my job!?

can you be medically downgraded or even binned for having gout

I'd say you're going arrse about face here.

Get your condition diagnosed by a doctor and fixed. Then your question above will be redundant.

Why did you settle on gout?

    Other types of arthritis

There are over 200 different types of rheumatic diseases (conditions that cause aches and pains in a person’s bones, joints and muscles).

Some of the most common types of arthritis include:

    • ankylosing spondylitis – a chronic (long-term) type of arthritis that affects the bones, muscles and ligaments of the spine
    • cervical spondylitis – also known as degenerative osteoarthritis, cervical spondylitis affects the joints and bones in the neck
    • fibromyalgia – a condition that causes pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as all over the body
    • lupus – a chronic (long-term) condition that causes inflammation in the body's tissues
    • gout – a type of arthritis that usually affects the big toe, but can develop in any joint in the body
    • psoriatic arthritis- joint inflammation that affects people with the skin condition, psoriasis
    • reactive arthritis – can cause inflammation of the joints, eyes, and urethra (the tube that runs from the bladder through the penis in men, or vulva in women, through which urine is passed)
    • secondary arthritis – a type of arthritis that can develop after a joint injury; it sometimes occurs many years after the injury
    • polymyalgia rheumatica – a condition where the immune system attacks healthy tissue, causing muscle pain, stiffness and joint inflammation

Been there. Done that. Go to the doctor and suggest that you are prescribed Allopurinol. Over 5 - 6 weeks the dose is increased from 100mg to 300mg daily.
I haven't had gout for 2 years since I started taking it.

are you mad? obviously the first port of call for anyone is not someone with known medical qualifications who can diagnose, medicate and possibly refer to a specialist. No! The first place one should go, having made the self-diagnosis, is to the internet, with all those anonymous keyboard warriors and their Google powers. Once safely on the internet, don't search for anything, just start a thread in the wrong forum and rely on everyone else.

(psssst, I didn't tell you but look for JSP 346, I wasn't here, you didn't see me)

Thank you for bringing me up to date. Some days I feel quite old-fashioned.
