...and while we are at it presumably you would support the following statement?

If a serviceman or woman is more concerned about their wife's employment and familiy stability, than they are about their career, then they are always free to join the millions claiming job seeker allowance - they will be replaced in an instant at the moment - by someone who is happy to serve accompanied.
Yes I would support that rather than have my hard earned taxes needlessly pay or someone else's child to go to boarding school just because they do not like the SCE schools. If a serviceperson wants to bring a camp follower along with them on postings then that is their choice.

Anyway, all of this will be irrelevant in the very near future when we become a home based Army.

International schools in the area is not necessarily the answer in my last posting the International schools were far more expensive than CEA.
I agree they are very expensive but a child will onl attend an international school when there is no UK/SCE schooling and only for the length of that posting - works out far cheaper in the long run

And how is that child reintegrated into the UK system?

Will the postings plot have to fit round the major exam courses, or will exam preparation and performance for children (whose families may be posted at important times) have to become an expected sacrifice?

Not to mention that the only schools with vacant places if you move at atypical times are the grotty ones.

There are relatively few postings nowadays that do not offer SCE schooling or UK schools. For those few postings you send singlies or those with no kids of school age, childless couples, or those prepared to make alternative arrangements or willing to accept local schooling (ie BATUS etc) or international schools.

The price of £172 million in todays climate just to pamper the minority is ludicrous, especially when there are far cheaper alternatives. As I have already said, all of this will be irrelavent soon when we pull back to the UK - I just hate to see this money wasted in the meantime.

My son went through SCE/UK schooling and moved on average every 2 years. He did ok and that was without me sending him to publicly funded boarding school.

As I have said, any soldier or officer that wants to put his/her child's education above his/her career will always be free to leave the services and find another job. I really do not see a problem with this.

I'd rather post the best person for the job, rather than making decisions based on fecundity.

The allowance is not for the provision of education is is for coninuity of education. And it's not jst about overseas service either. Being sujected to frequent, significant (ie in excess of 50 miles) moves is just as disrputive for kids.

It's worrying to think that you were serious when you typed this. I mean let's not use rank, ability, experience etc be the criteria to determine who to post where...let's define our manning and establishments on how many kids people have. Tit!

I'm not sure how sending your kids away to boarding school is pampering them.

I have slightly higher regard for my children's education and want them to do a bit better than 'ok'.

The reason most people claim CEA is that it allows them to balance both the needs of the serviceperson's career and family and as such is a significant part of the Military Covenant.

..and therein lies the problem. For many, OK, the highest level the majority of SCE/state sector establishments aspire to (let alone achieve), is simply not good enough.

Ahhhhhhhh!!! Now we are getting to the bottom of it!

You are expecting the public to fund the education of soldier's children purely so they can achieve better results than they otherwise (within the financial means of their parents) could.

    Hardly fair is it?

Rather than respond to each of your silly remarks individually I will do so in a oner. The country is broke. If you want private education for your kids then pay for it yourself. If you cannot afford it then either accept normal schooling (with said disruption) or go find another job. What's so difficult to understand with that??

And, if it makes you feel any happier, by 'ok' when refering to my kids GCSE results, I meant straight As apart from 2 Bs - that to me is him doing ok.

I am simply expecting the public purse to ensure that the children of service families receive continuity of education, continuity which cannot be achieved unless we stop posting people. This continuity cannot be provided through SCR or the state sector, thereby leaving the private sector as the only means (unless we stop posting people) to achieve the end.

PS. You do not appear to care very much about whether your son is given the best start in life. Pity.
