If you are an Army Bursar you are required to be a member of your local OTC and will automatically be given a place.
The level of training you are required to do is formally a matter for discusion between you and your new CO. If you are wanting to get stuck in then that's no problem.
There are one or two people who get permission not to attend for training ( in one current case I know because the person plays rugby to a very high competitive level) but that is unusual and maybe changing under the new OTC Directive shortly to be published by RMAS. Frankly I cant see why they would want to join the Army and not want to get stuck into OTC, but there you go.
Your OTC will get separate additional funding for you as a Bursar. This is good for them as it means they can take on someone else as well.
It is a good idea and basic good manners to get in touch with your new CO once you know you are going to be going to Exeter. Call the unit and get the COs full address etc and then write a nice formalish letter to him introducing yourself.
Running recruiting in the OTC is a bit hectic and if they can get you dealt with separately then it saves everyone a bit of work. They can get you in to fill all your forms in early and get you to meet the CO etc.
As you are going to be a Bursar then the unit will have no problem at all with you spending a year in the Middle East. But tell them about it early and they can advise you on what to do. Even if you weren't a Bursar then there should be no problem if you are a good person to have around and have shown you contribute to the unit.
Hi,
i'm just asking if there are any wales uotc representitives out there. just wondering, is it pathetically easy to get into, or are there certain subtleties involved? I must say i have been able to find little information of any use on your website, so any information would be apreciated
Walt...me? 'Shhhhh...only on the weekends, mums the word'.
ahh, the 'who is he' game. Much fun to be had.
Bebo, dont cast aspersions on ones character by naming one a 'rupert', i prefer the term chevronicly challenged.
However, aside from that game of cat and mouse. GSUOTC, a bloody good place, the people are brilliant. unlike CEUOTC who sit like a bunch of mong children eating a banana wth the skin on...
I offered to do it it for them, but they said 'no' and look what happens?
Anyway, hello buddy, theres several of us on here. In answer to your main query, it varies. There are various threads on here that indicate entry standards, but if you want I'll outline them again here.
Where are you based in Wales, since that affects which company you would join eg Cardiff, Swansea, Aber, or Bangor.
Please feel free to either post any question you have here, or PM if you prefer but keep in touch! :D
