Re: The Royal Marine Cadets?
I loved being a Cadet. I was ACF and CCF at different times, but I preferred the ACF. The instructors knew what they were on. I'd have been utterly horrified if someone had thrown a 60-odd lb Bergan at me and said 'Right you 'orrible lot - up and down the Fan to my timings.....GO!'
It had nothing really to do with instilling military ethos as such, and yet it had everything to do with it. Once the Army realised, in a corporate sense, that the process of getting young people, particularly males, interested and into the Army could be started subliminally at a very young age, they were onto a winner, and it shows.
I had great times, got to socialise with people that I would never normally have met, got really muddy a lot, learned to drink responsibly (!) and generally grew up all round.
So thank you to all those inspiring men and women who give up their free time to help young people realise their aspirations. I regularly pop back to my ACF Company and give talks and answer questions, but you chaps and chapesses have a special sort of dedication, for which I'm very grateful.
Cheers!

Oh god... mongoose... it was made worse when the Duke came and sat in the landrover. He was just on annual though and didn't recognise me so that goes to show it was effective ;).

Re: The Royal Marine Cadets?
i've seen no evidence of rm cadets having better/higher fitness levels than general ccf/acf/atc cadets. in fact the two that i had the pleasure of meeting face to face, one was massivly obese, and didnt complete the course, and the other was massivly anorexic(is that a contradiction)and didnt complete the course. neither did a good number of people(i did before you ask) . any cadet on CLC 01 at Nesscliff will agree.

Re: The Royal Marine Cadets?
Around 200 years ago for some reason which has never been clear to me I did a Cadet Commando (yes!!) course at Lympstone. RM Cadets from Belfast were our NCOs. Believe me they were most impressive.

Darth (and others posting here) - although not specifically aimed at the ATC, thanks for the appreciation of youth orgs (anyone reading late last night might have caught my rant). I'd rather like to add my support to those who've said robber's a bit of an embarassment, as well...

Re: The Royal Marine Cadets?
Robber is certainly not a county CEO.
As far as I am aware County CEOs are ex regular officers of either Major or Lt. Col. rank employed by the civil service.
Ergo, Robber would have to be over 45 and ex regular.
Robber, if you can remember teaching cadets in the late 80s why are you only now heading toward your CFM?
You have yet to state two facts that match, you appear to be a sad fantasist and unless you are a totaL WIND-UP then you are clearly unfit to be in charge of other people's children and an embarrassment to an organisation that carries out so much good work in society with so few resources.I had a black shirt, but I wasn't one.
