Sounds like the jolly KP?..if so, he owes me a new beret after taking my one off my head ripping it up due to a few microscopic oils stains ...I wouldn't have minded but i was an NCO and on duty at the time! Had to double myself away to get a new one.
You probabaly pi55ed him off that day....little sod.

Slightly off topic, but the mention of KRRC reminds me of this compass (the smaller one) I have dated 1917. The leather case dated 1916 bears the name '2Lt JC Mackenzie 12th KRRC' and 12th/60th on the other side. The initials 'HH' are also on it.
It was like that when I got here.

There was a nice little lecture on Great War accoutrements at the IWM a few years ago, whistles and Binos if I recall almost all were named to Regts and officers, it was assumed unnamed ones were from nco's!

Is this because it was assumed the NCOs wouldn't nick each other's kit but the offrs would ?
Apparently some moderators take themselves very, very seriously, and cannot abide posts such as:

Some comments are allegedly "very very nasty and uncalled for."

Well remembered bro. Your memory is better than mine about such things.
I also joined the bn in early/mid 78, not long before we all went off on a jolly to Cyprus - bloodhound camp if I remember correctly. Fookin'ell, that was 35 years ago............
Good luck and keep safe..........

1RGJ in the 70's wore silver stay brite cap badges. The only time black cap badges were worn was on tour across the water in 73 and 74/75. We were on tour again in 77 and everybody expected to get black badges issued again but we were told to continue wearing the silver ones as a sign of normality of our presence on the streets.
I was a good runner in the mob. I alway's liked to think I could get out of trouble quicker than what I got into it!
