Sparky in UNFICYP, detached from 50 Sqn.
Relieved 9 Sqn. and had a great six months there. I mean: downhill ski-ing in the morning and diving that same afternoon in the Med.
    Stayed in the Box Factory.
Had our own bar, had our own pool and beach (which we built!), had our own squash court, had our own room, had our own store annex workshop, had a Boss who left us alone, we had great piss-ups at and with the Danes, could always nip over to the Canooks for proper tools and equipment, had a brilliant R & R on the island, met some interesting people and had a lot of spare time.
And, we did some good work there.
    It was great.

Rifle Pl Comd on ops in NI. Minimal hassle from the Grown Ups, and a great bunch of lads. And just the chance that at any moment it might all get a bit "real". Happy days indeed.

I'm torn between Recce troop section leader when we first got Scimitar or tank troop leader, can't choose, so I won't.
Few of lifes problems cannot be solved by the liberal application of High Explosive.

Enjoyed all my postings, only one pissed me of for a time,2/1 ADTR Bunde.

Had an OC,who as a Tpt Sqn OC,would have made a good Staff Offr, and didn't like the idea of a "lowly Staff Sgt" knowing more about the "Red Threat" than he did,and a CO,who thought an Op Banner Rear Party of 5 guys, could pack 4 x Troop G1098 vehs, and then prep the Sqn vehicles in 2 hours, for an "Active Edge",even though the Sqn had a deferment due to their being on Op Banner, add to that an SSM who was an ex-Air Despatcher and SQMS,and could just about drive, and you've got a full house.

It got better, when all three went their separate ways, and 'human beings ' took over!

    Ask Kirkz,he knew 'em all.

Substan.sive Lance Private with Discharge Book in hand, a sad day
Everyone deserves a second chance, except those who try to shaft me and fail.

We are the Pilgrims, Master, we shall go always a little further,

It may be beyond the Blue mountain barred with snow,

Across that Angry or Glittering Sea.

Squadron leaders driver as a Trooper was good! Long enough in not to be a crow and have some respect shown, but no tapes to be given any real responsibility!
I did enjoy reaching the dizzy heights of Lance Jack to go to the mounted unit - Salisbury plain could rain as much as it wanted, I wasn't going to be there, I was going to sleep in a bed every night. It was going to be nights out in London, tourist fanny, troting through Sloane Square in the morning sunrise, with all the young (and sometime mature) female office workers smiling and waving shyly as you rode past, couple of you at the back with your tapes on in the good old Great coats feeling 10 foot tall, knowing you'd never have to suffer that horrific 20 weeks of riding school, it had all been done.

Came crashing after about 4 days when on my first day riding in London my horse stepped on a grid in Kensington High street. Front leg of it swept from underneath me, so I hit the deck with a massive thud and the horse fell on top of me. After that it was 80 - 100 hour weeks (Apart from RP staff with a 60 / 66 hour week) and finding out that not as many tourists speak English as you might think and if they do, they don't want to take you back to their hotel. It turned in to a couple of years of shagging the same slappers in Backpackers in Kings Cross!

But there is nothing like riding through the streets of London on horseback, in uniform, to bring out the Gentleman in you - I miss that feeling!
A fart is nothing more than an imprisoned turd, crying for help.
