A bit of a pain in the arrse when you have a glass of champers in one hand and your brand new wifey in the other.....

I would have thought the answer was obvious.....

Hold the champers in one hand, the sword in the other AND DITCH THE FECKING WIFE!

Officers don't run, it's undignified and it panics the men.

    Footguards - over the jkt.
    Cav/RA - under the jkt.
Plenty of anomalys between the various Regts & Corps.
Travel alone - rather than with a fool.

The major didn't think of his superiors as fools, of course,
since it would follow that everyone who obeyed them was a
fool. He used the term 'unwise', and felt worried when he used
    it.

    As I said earlier:

THE SWORD BELT GOES UNDER THE JACKET. END OF STORY.

At one time, 'clipping up' a sword was unheard of for Signals

I have worn this order of dress a few times and I always wore the belt under the jacket.

    Officers' swords on parade

A comment on another ARRSE thread led me to The King’s and Cheshire Regiment’s (KCR) Web site where I came across the following photo: http://www.army.mod.uk/img/kcr/KCR_P...er_2005_09.jpg. The photo was taken during a recent medals parade for the KCR with HRH The Prince of Wales in attendance. I was surprised to see some officers sporting unwound sword knots and some with their knots properly tied and wound around their swords’ hilts.

This sort of irregularity is along the lines of another of another thread of mine (in the RAC forum) concerning the use of infantry swords, along with other inconsistencies, in a recent medals parade by officers of a cavalry regiment, The King’s Royal Hussars.

So, is the KCR’s case of wound and unwound sword knots on parade one of sloppy adjutant-ship or am I missing something in terms of tradition or directive, at least where this and possibly other regiments are concerned? I have always believed that strict consistency is required on parade and that sword knots should be properly tied and wound around the hilt. I would be pleased to hear other opinions and comments on the matter.

Perhaps the link referred to above will work this time:

In our regiment Subbies carry tied up sword knots while field rank officers generally let them hang out.
